Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Yes
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
City of Pattonsburg was virtually destroyed by flooding in 1993. Rather than simply rebuild....this community chose to break with "tradition"....by relocating and completely re-designing the entire community in the process.
Every aspect of the redesign....was centered around being environmentally friendly , and utilizing as many energy efficient options...as were available at the time..
Ours was one of the very first communities in the entire nation....to encorporate, Ordinances and covenants within our city charter....in respect to wind and/or solar energy production.
What excites you about this campaign?
Not only does this campaign offer a way out of this tremendous hole we have dug for ourselves.....It offers a whole new "industry" to rural america!
For many years.....small rural communities relied heavily on small manufacturing firms...to provide jobs and income in the community. During the last 8-10 years.....90% of those jobs, these communities relied upon....have been taken away.....by "outsourcing" to foreign countries!
Building of these wind farms will require the services of construction workers....to prepare the ground, and build the wind generators.. Once in operation.....workers will be needed to operate and maintain the facilities....etc, etc, etc....
What do you want to do to help?
Even though we are a very small community....by anyones standards. Given a common sense ideal to believe in.....and a reason to make it happen......and our tiny community can become a mighty force to be reckoned with! ( Just ask any politician that told us our plan to relocate and redesign our comminity ....COULDNT be done...back in "93! Not only did we do it......but we did it ON TIME and UNDER BUDGET!!!)

Richard,
I read your profile and all of your post. I applaud you and your community for the forward thinking and planning that makes your new city one of the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly towns in the US. I have worked in the HVAC, electrical contracting, energy management and solar technologies business for well over 30 years and know first hand that the design and application of energy efficient building design standards coupled with high efficiency HVAC and energy management utilization can save more than 50% on the operational cost on any building. Add to that wind, solar, geo-thermal and solar thermal and that number goes much higher. One thing you could consider is the installation of hydronic solar for heating hot water and space heating in all of your city properties and schools.....etc. Hydronic solar is dirt cheap compared to any other type of alt.energy application.

I noticed you mentioned seniors in a post. I am one and I sure support what Mr. Pickens is doing. My discussion group is called Seniors Online Supporters.
I read your comments on the Missouri group. I applaud your community for the commitment for change and alternate energy. I cannot even begin to know what it's like to be in such a flood.
