Installed a solar heater on condominium complex swimming pool in Palo Alto, California in 1976. Speaker in opposition to Proposition 15, the 1976 California Nuclear Initiative opposed to nuclear electricity production. Executive Director of the Governor’s Cabinet Task Force on Water Resources (1983-84) in which significant water resource policies were reviewed, with significant considerations given to hydro-electric power generation on the Columbia River and many smaller rivers. Management consultant for Washington State's Department of Ecology's Office of High Level Nuclear Waste Management in 1984 (overseeing the federal DOE's investigation of the proposed nuclear waste repository in the 586-square-mile Hanford Nuclear Reservation located along the Columbia River in southeastern Washington State - when even then it was obvious that Yucca Mountains' tuft deposits high above water tables was the best proposed site). Proposed a statewide initiative for limits on carbon emissions from electrical production in 1986. Proponent of energy production and odor control in large commercial livestock facilities through methane generation. Familiar with SW's potential for wind and solar energy production through travels in the area. Son was an instructor in the US Navy's Nuclear Prototype School in Charleston, SC. Proud owner of a Toyota Prius.
What excites you about this campaign?
This is an ambitious, but doable, specific plan that would (1) make the country more energy independent which would enhance our national security, (2) reduce the wealth drain on the country which would help the country economically, and (3) constrain the production of greenhouse gases and slow global warming which is threatening civilization as we know it.
What do you want to do to help?
Organize support for the plan, to put pressure not only on the presidential candidates of both parties, but also on the congressional candidates and state legislatures.

Two articles that you should be aware of

I wish to share two articles that you should be aware of, as the contents give great ammunition against some who try to discredit the Pickens Plan, as it is "not needed".

1. "Here comes $500 oil" at http://money.cnn.com/2008/09/15/news/economy/500dollaroil_okeefe.fortune/index.htm?postversion=2008092210

The thrust of the argument is that world oil production has peaked (just as Pickens says) and high oil prices are here to stay (despite the current drop "all the way to $100 per barrel"). Analy… Continue

Informative website up and running for the Pickens Plan

Here are the contents of my website at http://peakeffectiveness.com/wind.htm:

The Pickens Plan – An Antidote to America’s Addiction to Oil

The Pickens Plan is to install enough wind turbines from the Texas panhandle to North Dakota to produce 20% of the electricity for the United States within 10 years. The power generated from this system would allow shifting the natural gas now used to produce 22% of our electricity away from electri… Continue

Merry Christmas Rick,
This year I have helped so many members learn about personal home energy plans. It's all about power use, conservation, and home power generation, things I have been doing at my residence to lower my energy costs. Send me a friend request a to add me Rick, I'd be honored to have you as a friend here.

BTW, Michigan: I just posted an article on my page about Home Wind Systems in Michigan. Your state's representatives, governor, and public utility commission officials are not in your corner with this "soft policy" on Net Metering. Instead they have the tables turned against green power for businesses and homeowners. You should read that article, important.

Hi Rick!

Several weeks ago you offered to help with the 100 Pledge Push Challenge. I would be so happy to hear how it is going. We are fast approaching Inauguration Day and need to ramp up our numbers asap.
How close are you to 100?

As Thomas Friedman stated (DAILY PICKENS) we must build a huge grass roots effort to get this accomplished.

Please update me.
Gratefully Best,
Kim

Thanks for Joinng Up Rick, WELCOME ABOARD!

(1) Please Go to THE PLEDGE (very top of this page) On the top of the pledge page there are three rectangular buttons- two blue ones and ONE RED BUTTON, that reads "CONTACT CONGRESS" . Fill in the short, standard form. Done! Thanks.
(2) In addition to political support and action, I encourage you to consider a Personal Energy Plan in which you take control of your electricity by using home energy systems. That's what I do for a living, help people with their own home systems. I will be glad to help you and answer any questions. Below is some info and links that will give you an idea of where to start.

Hi Rick,
We have new roof mounting residential wind turbine kits are shipping now. They are sleek, attractive, and well designed. These are actually a home appliance on the roof, much like an antennae or satellite dish. They are as easy to install as other home appliances, dishwasher, etc. It's a nice clean way for you to begin a personal energy plan. These systems are inexpensive, easy to install, scaleable.

Your Wind blows stronger in the winter, Your Sun shines stronger in the summer months. This hybrid wind/solar system combines these cycles to give a more even flow of energy year round. This homeowner sized wind/solar system provides free power for your home. Many customers have found it easy to become customer/dealers of our kits. Customers can become a dealer with no further investment, they see quickly how people are easy to get interested.

I have used the same systems save money on my electricity costs and Rick, you can too. Your local wind resources are so good in Michigan. Have a look at these windmaps and see can you pinpoint what number your area is in. Zone 2 is OK, anything over 2 is (very) good. First double check your wind resources from the map and links below.

Rick,

I may be able to help small businesses in general and specifically in the wind energy arena. As an intermediary, I represent a self-liquidating business line of credit. Sound too good to be true, I assure you that it is not.

Contact me directly to learn more: mlswaner@fmtcblue.com

Regards,

Michael

The action committee is very simmilar to www.action.pickensplan.com however our job is to do that in a much larger scale! An action committee member will have responsibilities that include: scheduling a conference with their senators/congressman, talking to major companies on switching to natural gas vehicles, and even talking to families about becoming 'green' and signing the petition.

If everything above sounds appealing to you, why wait? Join the Action Committee now!

My name is Ryan Aiken and I am a graduate student at the University of Michigan (UM). The primary focus of my graduate studies has been the manner in which energy is used as a tool of foreign policy. Prior to coming to UM, I worked as a Legislative Assistant to former U.S. Rep. Tom Lantos. In this capacity one of my main responsibilities was energy. I have applied to establish a chapter of PickensU at UM and wanted to let you know that I am ready to assist you in your efforts to push the Pickens Plan here in Michigan. Please, let me know how I can help.

Pickens to Come to U. of MI on Oct. 1

Great news!

In the Ann Arbor News today (9/21/08) is the announcement that T. Boone Pickens will be coming to speak at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1 in the "Diag" on the University of Michigan Campus.

If you are within a reasonable distance, please come (even if you are an MSU Spartan student, fan or alum like I am :) ). This is our chance to show our support for the Pickens Plan.

A map of the campus is at http://www.umich.edu/~info/pdf/central.pdf with the Diag (an outdoor gathering spot) just to the lower left of the center of the page. Getting around and parking before 5:00 p.m. can be an issue, so give yourself extra time.
