- Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
- I began to be interested in alternative energy about a year ago. I have watched our fleet of diesel powered dump trucks consume hundreds of thousands of dollars of $4.50 per gallon fuel this year. I've done quite a bit of research on CNG powered vehicles in an attempt to find some relief from our crushing fuel bills. What I have found is that nobody realizes that a viable solution to our energy debacle is within a realistic grasp. Natural gas is piped directly into our shop facility for heating. We've eliminated the need for natural gas heating by burning used motor oil that we generate from our oil changes in a used oil powered furnace. We are considering building a private CNG fueling station and converting some of our smaller trucks to run on CNG. The cost to convert existing vehicles to CNG is extremely high thanks to monumental financial hurdles imposed by the EPA , over a $100,000 investment for a conversion company to get a single make of engine certified and $8,000 to $10,000 paid by end user for the actual conversion. This needs to change.
- What excites you about this campaign?
- I am excited that there is a real opportunity to loosen the stranglehold that foreign oil has on my nation. Everyone knows firsthand the pain at the pump. Everyone I've talked to likes the idea of wind generated electricity and are amazed to learn the benefits of using CNG to fuel vehicles, specifically the lower cost of fuel. It is a fun subject to talk about.
- What do you want to do to help?
- I am an estimator for a paving and gravel company in southern Idaho. We have contacts with many of the largest players in the Idaho dairy and farming industry who would be helpful in furthering The Plan. Additionally , I think we should formally present The Pickens Plan to the Associated General Contractors of Idaho. I would be willing to assist in any way that I can.

There is a perfect storm of events happening right now that create the possibility of a paradigm shift that is urgently needed. We have an angry citizenry due to pain at the pump, a presidential election on the horizon, and a man with a plan to dramatically and imminently reduce our dependance on foreign oil, and provide a bridge to future solutions, who has the resources, contacts, knowledge, wealth and "will" to get it done.
Please share this plan with your circle of friends, family and associates. Urge them to JOIN. As you know, it is simply like signing a petition. With large numbers of supporters, we can put pressure to bear on Congress to incentivize alternative and renewable energies, and insure that our future president will be a leader that will push for domestic energy solutions. JFK once said. "in the next 10 years we will put a man on the moon". He got it done. We need that kind of leadership on energy.
Time is of the essence. If gas prices retreat the public will forget the pain, and our moment may be lost. How frightening to be looking back and apologizing to our children that we could not get this done when we had the chance.
