My daughter owns a Prius. I just love it.

Robin,
TRANSPORTATION is the master key to basic survival, and the cornerstone of the economy. We all know that transportation presently depends on oil production, and oil production is peaking. We must focus first on transportation – it is the highest priority. The PickensPlan to transition vehicles to natural gas is a great start toward 100% energy independence, but is a stop-gap measure till we can transition to all electric transportation. Electric energy is strained without adding transportation demands; so we must drastically improve efficiency .
Evacuated Tube Transport (ETT) is a patented technology where travel occurs without air friction or rolling resistance (like “Space Travel on Earth”); ETT can accomplish 50 times more transportation per kWh (or carbon credit) than electric cars or trains. ETT is silent, low cost, safe, faster than jets, and is electric so it can make maximum use of wind or PV power. I invite you to visit my page to learn more about ETT

I am an elitist, tree hugging, latte drinking, arugula eating vegan who is...yes... BITTER, after the last seven and a half years of G W Bush! Let's get on with trying to do what we can to repair just some of the damage we've caused to this planet.

I've been vegan for well over 30 years. That's NO support for ANY animal-based agriculture, and IMHO that's GREEN!

Yeah its pretty crazy... apparently gluten is extracted from bread and used as a thickening agent and a binding agent, so its all over the place (although as to what in coffee would need to be thickened or binded I have no idea)

Incidentally, Keith Olberman and Thom Hartmann (2 "n"s... i assume no relation?) both also have this condition.

Not that this is relevant to anything in particular, just interesting... the kind of random knowledge an insomniac with high-speed internet access picks up.

"you always thought not eating gluten would be hard"... HA! thats an understatement... I didnt even know what gluten WAS before i started dating this girl... holy crap, its EVERYWHERE.

You know they put it in some brands of COFFEE!?!?!?! nuts, right?

Yeah, I reduced my meat intake severely when I heard how much energy goes into production.... I'm in better shape as a result too.

Plus I like supporting organic food companies... my girlfriend has dietary restrictions (celiac... cant eat gluten) I've found that organic and vegetarian food producers make gluten-free stuff too... supporting them (in theory) helps the cause of getting that kind of food more accessible.

Keep up the good work, i love the sharing of ideas.

Robin,
You dont need to be building wind farms, putting up solar panels, installing a tankless water heater, or driving the tesla electric car to make a dent...
less energy use = less oil consumption.
I wrote a blog on the subject... how we can all as individuals reduce our use on a daily basis, and as a side benefit, lower our energy bills, raise our gas mileage, and live a little healthier.
