Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I am actually in the field of electrical engineering. I am studying at Oklahoma State University with 2 years left on my degree. I have worked with many companies that do work in energy related fields, but more along the lines of how to control and conserve energy usage in building.
Along with that, some friends of mine and I have been trying to work on designs and ways to build wind turbine systems and make it in a more cost effective and easier to maintain manner.
What excites you about this campaign?
I think it is a very feasible idea and a rather smart idea. The few issues I see with it, are what if Natural gas in 20 or 40 years becomes like how oil is now, and how to transmit the power from the window corridor to the coasts. With the knowledge I do have of power systems I know that the transportation of power is by far the greatest issue to the plan.
Although all and all the plan is the most reasonable and the most economical of all that I have seen. I know it would not take much to refit current gas pumps to natural gas pumps. Also it would provide a large new sector for jobs to grow with the design and build of many of these window turbine systems.
What do you want to do to help?
The fact that I am a college student and that I am in a field that this plan will change, I have been thinking of trying to get involved within the student government organizations. An idea I have been thinking of and I think it would a great way to sponsor and get the name of this project out, would be to have a college wide design and build competition. For example many aerospace engineering students have a contest where they design a plan to preform a certain task, and all the colleges design, build, and try to produce an air craft that can preform the task and do it the best.
I think if this concept was take and applied to wind turbine and power generation it would both help to educate students on how to design, build, and maintain such a system. As I have read one of the major issues is the lack of understand about such systems, but I feel if a competition was created within the college ranks, it would provide a greater desire for students to become involved in the design and build of such project. I do not believe this is a contest I could produce on my own, but I feel that if I was able to make it into the student organization and if there was a push from others outside of the academic fields it could work.
