Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:: Lived off the power grid for two years. I had six 55 watt solar panels, four golf cart batteries, four huge batteries that I think were T-12 or something and a Trace Inverter/converter. As many appliances are on standby and use power when turned off, I kept my TV and satellite controller box on a power strip which I kept on off when not in use. I used low input/ high out light bulbs. My Trace would invert DC to AC for household use. When I'd use the wash machine, I turn the generator on. The Trace would convert the AC power into DC and charge my batteries. I usually got by on solar except when washing clothes, the panels were covered with snow or on those few overcast days in Arizona. I moved back on the power grid in 1997 but enjoyed the near energy independence for those two years.

I have a solar panel on my Class B RV and use compact fluorescent bulbs at home.

I started a chat room for ALTERNATIVE RENEWABLE ENERGY, http://www.ioffer.com/clubs/show/256 several years ago but found little interest.
