Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:

I drive a Toyota Prius that is getting (an honest) 50 mpg. Our family does the best we can to conserve energy and recycle around the house. Our house has a solar water heater. I have written several letters to the editor of our local newspaper, one of which was published, concerning the need to conserve energy and the folly of the thinking of so many people that the solution is more drilling.

What excites you about this campaign?

I'll tell you what excites me.....I have been aware of and worried about the disastrous consequences of peak oil production since I read the headline article about it some years ago in National Geographic Magazine. Through the intervening years I have seen no concern, no action, no planning from anyone in our government and have been shocked that, considering the obvious enormity of the problem, that this could be so. I remember the oil crisis of the 70's and believe that that is nothing compared to the crisis that is just over the horizon. So to now find someone of Mr. Pickens' background and resources who must feel the same sense of urgency that I do gives me a little hope. I am going to help in this endeavor to the best of my abilities.

What do you want to do to help?

Firstly, I am going to vote for the candidates in the upcoming election who share my concern and have ideas about how to solve it. Apart from the Iraq war, there is no issue more pressing. Secondly, I am going to contact my congressmen to voice my concerns. And finally, I would be willing to donate my personal time and resources to any worthy plan that addresses this issue.
