Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Yes
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
I installed propane conversions on pickups, cars, and fleet trucks in this area. This was especially popular with cottom farmers in the area.
What excites you about this campaign?
I am now involved with Aviation Maintenance training, which includes courses directly applicable to WIND GENERATION (AC/DC power, composites, etc.). What excites me is a legendary oilman is forward thinking enough to realize that we cannot continue on our current path. I would also like to investigate more economic and evironmentally friendly aviation fuels.

Happy New Year Steve,
Last year I helped so many members of Pickens Plan learn about personal home energy plans. It's all about conservation of power, and home power generation, things I have been doing at my residence to lower my electricity costs. Send me a friend request a to add me Steve, I'd be honored to have you as a friend here.

BTW, Texas: I just posted an article link on my pickens page about Home Wind Systems in Texas. Your state's representatives, governor, and public utility commission officials are not in your corner with this "weak policy" on Net Metering. Instead they have the tables turned against green power for businesses and homeowners. Texas has created multiple sets of rules for loopholes and you have less rights than people in other states. You should read that article, important.

Steve,
I can check vendor pricing here in the Philadelphia, PA area however your local vendors would price product based on the regional area. Most everyone here deals with either oil tank service or electric or natural gas heat provided by the utility company. Of course, there are some solar homes here but not many in this area.

If you go with propane, you have to retain a very reputable contractor and vendor of propane tanks. You are responsible for the pressurized lines within the house. Call me a city girl but I would rather the utility company handle the natural gas and I would handle the windmill and solar panels.

My late husband worked with pressurized flexible steel lines that serviced the steel mills, pharma companies, hospitals, the U.S. Navy, etc. He always liked a fire grill more than a gas gill when we barbecue at home. A few other people within the flex steel industry felt the same way about gas gills. He also loved to be in the boiler rooms of naval aircraft carriers and loved the Corning Ware Mfg. plant.

Hi Steve,

Funny you should ask me a real estate question on the pickensplan website... :-))

Corpus real estate units sold are down 65% from the same monthly period at the peak of the market in 2006, mostly because credit is so tight. If one has cash and/or a well-paying and secure job, then it IS a GOOD time to buy. I am fully invested myself and seller-financing also, but I don't have any debt either. Let me know if I can help you with either financing or real estate some day. --Rick

Steve,
If you would like to help conserve energy and go green, please contact your local power company for their customer green energy plans. Consider installing one of the new heating systems that are more efficient. The financial crisis has hit PA hard so I am not in the position to completely redo my home. My heating system was installed in 2004, so I am not replacing my unit at this time. However, I did have more home insulation installed and I have a new upstairs window air conditioner unit. The utility companies are getting on the green bandwagon and are more than happy to help the consumer. Currently, I am working on water conservation with the water company and my plumbing contractor.

You can also contact the Pickens Main office about the upcoming wind farms which Boone has proposed for the state of Texas. I feel Texans should develop wind power and modify the turbines for bird protection. Along with solar, wind is the best natural source out there. Since I was born and raised in New Jersey, I am familiar with coastal winds but I have never experienced the winds that blow up and down the Midwest Corridor. Seriously, look into wind power.

Have a get together with friends and discuss what your energy company can do for you! If there are any plans for natural gas drilling, request all the information and read. Reading and being informed is the key to a new energy plan.

I hope I have answered your questions as top waht you can personally do to go green. If you read the Pledge and investigate the website, the information will help you make decisions on your home and personal use of energy.

Hi Steve!

"Welcome!" on behalf of the Pickens Community Welcome Wagon. Thank you for taking the time to join. In the past weeks the Community has made a great deal of progress and the U.S. Congress knows the Pickens Army is on the march.

The Red Button - Click and Instantly Inform Your Lawmakers!!
We now have a Pledge link on the Main Page, at the top. Click Pledge and you will see a link that will automatically send a letter to your federal and state representatives plus a letter to the Governor of your state!

The Pledge-Fax Your Statement!!
Please read and sign and fax to the number listed at the bottom of the Pledge page. If you could download the pledge and distribute and persuade others to sign, that would be a great help. The Community feels this is the best way to get the attention of state and federal lawmakers.

Please tell friends to check out the site and read the Pledge.

The Communications Group created a great deal of information to read and to distribute within a member's local community. Please take your time to browse through the group's information.

The Videos link at the top of your Profile Page has videos that are a good source of information from people who are in the field working with alternative energy. The technical videos and amateur videos are varied, so paging back to page one might be the best way to browse. Or, if you would like, simply type key words in the search box.

If you have any questions, please email!
