RI may be the first state in the nation to have Off shore Wind Turbines to produce Eelctricity
1000 new jobs will be created in RI with the company that will be installing the turbines
This is a link to an Article in Thursday 3/19/09 Providence Journal Front Page on the Pickens Plan Forum that I Organized

Can I please submit your name as a supporter of the Pickens Plan? We are trying to gather over 1,000 new supporters from RI before April 1st. I am available to answer any questions you may have.
If other friends or family members support it, will you please include their info as well.

I only need Name, Zip Code and email.

Here is the plan if you would like to see a short video
www.pickensplan.com Please stop by my page and say "hi" http://push.pickensplan.com/profile/EarleUScharffIII

The Pickens plan is simple and do able. At current gas prices we
spend over 400 billion a year (that we borrow from China) on foreign oil.
(when it was higher, the number was 700 billion, it will be there again
soon enough)
Picken's plan is to:
1. Use American technology and renewable solutions for electricity.
Wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, etc.
2. Use CNG (natural gas) for transportation fuel, especially
trucks, buses and municipal vehicles- almost 40% of our needs as a
country. Batteries currently can not move 18 wheelers. CNG is cleaner and
less expensive than foreign oil, and it is ours!
3. Boone is an "all of the above" guy, as long as it is an American
solution, and the money stays in this country.

I am working with a national effort to gather millions of
supporters to insure that Congress supports our efforts to finally get
this country to be energy independant. Brazil has done it....why can't
we? Cheap oil has gotten us here, but we must finally end it. Our economy
and national security depend upon it.

We could become net exporters of renewable energies and ride this
horse out of the economic trough we are in. We have a very limited time to
make this work. Call it a perfect storm, organized by a titan of
commerce who is leading this historical effort to make sure we get this
right.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Best
Earle

Will you please take one minute to email our Senators! The link is at the bottom, and it directly goes to Reed and Whitehouse!

It is CRITICAL that we get the Senate to pass the energy components, in the stimulus package, that are on the table. Please ask all of your friends to make sure they call or email their Senators AND ask their friends to do the same!!

WE CAN DO THIS!

Have a great day, PLease let me knw how it goes. It takes just one minute!
Kim

HERE IS BOONE'S LETTER:

Please email your Senator today!

The stimulus package passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is now in the Senate. You know how this deal works: Each of the two houses of Congress works on its own version of the bill, then they have to get together and work out the differences before it gets sent to President Obama.

I need you to contact your U.S. Senators and ask them to support the Pickens Plan components of the stimulus package.

Reports from the Senate indicate that getting our items into the bill will be an uphill battle – but it is still possible. We hope these will take the form of incentives such as tax credits or grants.

The House bill contained a lot of the items we have been pushing for in the Pickens Plan on the wind side of the plan. I need your help in telling your U.S. Senators to leave those in, but we need more attention on moving our national heavy truck fleet from imported diesel to domestic natural gas.

We want the Senate to allow trucking companies – large and small truckers who operate 18-wheelers – to get a tax break for buying trucks that run on natural gas.

If we can get just 350,000 of the 6.5 million 18-wheelers running on natural gas, we can cut our foreign oil dependence by over five percent!

Remember, in December – even with the economy coming to a halt – we still imported almost 380 million barrels of oil. About a quarter of that oil is used for diesel fuel to run 18-wheelers.

That will not only cut down on foreign oil, but it will add jobs as the heavy truck manufacturers hire (or retain) workers to build the new natural gas engines.

I need you to contact your U.S. Senators to tell them to support the Pickens Plan. Here is the link to automatically email your Senators:

Hi TIm!

This is the moment we have been waiting for. Legislation is on the table...

A message from Judy DePalma, our New England organizer, from Boone's team:
"You may have seen Boone’s email to the Army about the stimulus package. The package includes wind energy elements and we want to generate activity around this email before Congress votes on the package on WEDNESDAY. This is what we’ve been waiting for. It’s time for the rubber to hit the road and take action to let Congress know we are serious about wind energy and the stimulus package.

We want to generate this activity through phone calls to members of Congress. (phone numbers at the bottom of this message)

This is the first big phase of action in making the Pickens Plan become reality. We have been building the Army for months in anticipation. Now is the time for us to be heard.

Thanks again, everyone. I look forward seeing your results! Let me know if you have any questions or need any help. -Judy

Talking Points:

- Urge them to tell House Leadership that their constituents support the wind energy elements included in the Stimulus Bill which will build upon 2008's successes in the wind energy sector:

- Extension of the Production Tax Credit

- Implementation of a renewable infrastructure loan program

- We hope they're willing to doing more on the natural gas side and provide the INCENTIVES that will greatly expand the use of domestic natural gas as a vehicle fuel in America. Expanded use of NGVs (natural gas vehicles) will help wean us off of foreign oil and create new American jobs.

These incentives include:

- Increasing the vehicle tax credit to make natural gas trucks more accessible for heavy and medium duty truck operators

- Extending the fuel tax credit

The Pickens Plan works best as a whole plan - wind and natural gas - and we hope Members of Congress will support that.

The Stimulus Bill is a strong start but there's more we can - and should - do.

IT IS URGENT TO GENERATE AS MANY CALLS TO OUR DC REPRESENTATIVES AS WE POSSIBLY CAN!.

This is what we have been waiting for - LEGISLATION that can make a difference!

PLEASE let me know if you are able to make a call.... OR join RI-01 or RI-02 and post it there. Boone's team is tring to gauge what kind of pressure we are able to apply- we need to hear from you! LET's ROLL.

THANK YOU,
KIM

Hi Tim……thank you for joining! Education is the key to knowledge, but where do we start? After you familiarize yourself with the information at this website, a wealth of additional information is available. We can look to Europe as our inspirational model for developing sustainable renewable energy. Countries like Denmark, Germany and Spain lead the way in this effort and have been there for the past 10-20 years - even more. Germany’s commitment through cooperatives and local municipalities has installed 19,000+ wind turbines and millions of solar collectors, both for solar hot water and electricity feeding the power grid.

The onshore and offshore installation of wind turbines in Denmark and Germany are producing 20% of all their electrical needs; in Spain, as much as 38% (please see examples in the photos on my page). We are 10 years behind in implementation compared to these countries!

I mention these examples to give us a direction for inspiration and point to where we could be heading with the Pickens Plan. The technology is already there and we do not have to reinvent the wheel. These are a few of the websites I would suggest you visit to see what others around the world have done and are doing:

1) The Solar Village – Freiburg, Germany. See: http://www.thesolarvillage.com/
Watch the video in the upper left corner of the page. It tells a great story.
2) The Folkecenter for Renewable Energy – Denmark.
See: http://www.folkecenter.net/gb/overview/publications/
Under VARIOUS, read: The transition from Fossil Fuels to the Renewable Energies
The whole website is excellent and you could spend hours there.
3) Google: Samso, Denmark. This is an island off the coast of Denmark that is completely self-sustaining. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/07/07/080707fa_fact_kolbert
4) Read the article written by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. titled: “Global Warming: A Real Solution”

Here are a few great videos to see: “Saved by the Sun” a PBS NOVA video, and “A Crude Awakening” by Basil Gemlpke, et al. Americans need to mobilize and pressure our government representatives both on the state and national level. The Pickens Plan is a good place to foster discussion and share ideas and PUSH this plan! We can all share in this vital common cause. Good luck in your quest for a better more secure America….. Please ask 5 of your friends to join the “PLAN”……> Lee Ewald

Hi Tim,

Welcome to the Pickens Plan.

We all share the same goal; to rid ourselves of foreign oil and clean up our environment for our children and grandchildren. Wind energy is a viable alternative. Some of us have a different ideas of what we can do for immediate relief.

Join some groups, get involved and invite some of your friends to join you.

Check out our group "Live Carbon Free" and see how we are promoting conservation and environmental stewardship as the bridge to future energy developments. Regardless of what we do, it will take some time to implement on a significant scale. For immediate results we can make a huge difference by conserving what we have.

We would like for you to join our group and value your input. Feel free to add me as a friend..
