You live in District 9 and we need your support...
Before you read on please understand that the Pickens Plan is in a new phase of organization. Our first goal was to get as many members as we can and now it’s time for you to find your district group and join them. All of us belong to a variety of groups but it’s important that you find your district group and get plugged in because this is where many of our calls to action will come from. These groups are where the real work will begin.
I’ve just got off the phone with Ed Matricardi, Regional Leader for the Pickens Plan. I had a bunch of questions about my role as the Pickens Plan Group Leader for the VA-09th District. Like always Ed was very helpful and provided key things we should be working on. Unlike Ed I’m not as savvy in the political arena and I have never been very active in political activities. But I know how to build groups and networks and I’m anxious to do my part.
All Pickens Plan State Districts Groups have been appointed leaders to head them off. You can find your group by entering your zip code at this link. Please understand that we all have something of value to offer and anyone of you can take the lead role. Group leaders have been assigned the first task of getting 500 people to join each district group. For those of you new to political campaigns and more importantly how to influence our political leaders there are some basic fundamental to understand.
Every state is divided into districts and each district is represented by a person we elect. These elected officials are called congressman and serve on the “Hill” or House of Representatives. Some larger states like Florida, Texas, and California can have as many as 50 seats in the house, but in Virginia we only have 11 seats or 11 districts. Although many of the representatives have been in power for several years they serve two year teams.
In Virginia we have 11 districts and the representatives are:
Davis, Jo Ann (R) - 1st District
Drake, Thelma (R) - 2nd District
Scott, Robert C. (D) - 3rd District
Forbes, J. Randy (R) - 4th District
Goode, Virgil H., Jr. (R) - 5th District
Goodlatte, Bob (R) - 6th District
Cantor, Eric (R) - 7th District
Moran, Jim (D) - 8th District Boucher, Rick (D) - 9th District
Wolf, Frank (R) - 10th District
Davis, Tom (R) - 11th District
I’ve been assigned the 9th District which covers Western Virginia and these counties: Allegheny, Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Craig, Dickenson, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Henry, Lee, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, Roanoke, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, Wythe. If you live in one of these counties please join our group.
I live in Floyd County a small mountain community nested on a plateau atop the Blue Ridge Mountains. I’m originally from Miami Florida, served in the Marine Corps and have a professional background in website design, graphic design and relationship marketing. I work from home and will devote the time required to make sure our VA district 9 is represented well.
In the next few weeks I will do my best to keep everyone informed and up to date with the task that will be coming from the Top Leaders of the Pickens Plan including Mr. Pickens himself. We need to be ready to act by calling and writing our elected officials. Please tell all current members of the Pickens Plan to find and join their perspective groups. Don’t forget to invite people who haven’t heard about the Pickens Plan to get involved.

Hi Teresa!
What do you want the new president to do FIRST??
"That's the question of the day at Fox News, and you can weigh in by sending them an email telling them you want to see the next president adopt the Pickens Plan!

Regradless of who we voted for - our country has decided and we must do everything in our power to insure the Obama's Presdency is a successful one. STARTING WITH ENERGY. We must continue to educate Americans one at a time how urgent renewable and alternative energies are to our future. WE ONLY ACHIEVE CHANGE WITH HARD WORK AND DEDICATION to creating a complete paradigm shift of thought in this country.
Thomas Friedman said some critical things about changing thought and getting action:
What do you think about Boone's New Energy Army marching on Washington when President-elect Obama and the new Congress are sworn in?
I think he’s on the right track.
Why do you say that?
How did we get civil rights changes in this country? It happened basically when people took to the streets and politicians saw them, understood there was an aggrieved community there that wanted action, and the politicians decided that the cost of inaction on their part was greater than the cost of action. The same thing has to happen on energy. There is only going to be real legislative change and support of renewable energy when enough politicians decide that the cost of inaction is greater than the cost of action. And bringing lots of people, and I don’t mean five, ten, twenty, but hundreds of thousands of people to bear on Capitol Hill to drive that point home is really essential.
How closely do you think the major oil-exporting countries are watching us to see whether or not America develops a sustainable energy policy?
I think they’re watching, but I think so far they’re not afraid because they’ve seen this play before. They know when global oil prices go down, it tends to kill the renewable energy industry. Happened in the ‘70s and ‘80s. And so I don’t think they’re exactly quaking in their boots yet. But I think they’re watching very closely, especially when they see the politics shift and they see people like Boone or Wal-Mart, people from the corporate sector or even from the traditional energy business such as General Electric adopting new positions- that gets their attention. They haven’t seen yet any really scale alternative to oil. Until they do, I don’t think they’ll be all that worried.
I have said all along the only way to get this done is to make it political suicide for them not to get it done! The only way we affect results on this is to be strong, be loud, be united and be consistent, in all of it. PLEASE continue to share the Pickens Plan with everyone you know. Bring them to the site. Get them to sign your pledge/petition. NOW is not the time to let down our effort, it is the time to turn up the pressure - We now know where it needs to be directed. We will eat the apple one bite at a time. Please keep it in your conversations and continue to help us build to millions of supporters. WE CAN DO THIS.
Hi Teresa! Just wanted to stop by and personally welcome you to Pickens plan! I'm glad to see you taking initiative towards the need for more renewable energy policies and awareness! Please feel free to stay in touch and share you thoughts! Thanks!
