Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
Engineering background, MSEE from NDak State U, EE degree from Stanford;.

The US Gov has no energy plan, and politicians are incapable of such planning...it takes industry to do this

I know that if we reduce US oil consumption by 17%, we can become independent of Mid-East & Venezuelan oil.

It will take several parallel approaches to get there including some paridigm shifts in transportation...replacing some long-haul trucking with rail

I know also that some immediate benefits can accrue via ethanol, because in IA there are some 4800 flex fuel cars, and in Cedar Rapids there is no E-85 infrastructure. We should attempt to get some consumption reduction via E-85 even if we have to buy ethanol from Brazil

I first investigated CNG (methane recovery)...via landfill gas...as an add-on to natural gas...which could account for up to 5-6% of consumption if used. A typical acre of landfill can produce the energy equivalent of 69,000 gallons of gasoline/year; Iowa has the equiv of some 30 each 40-acre landfills. In IA this would be about 5.8% of consumption. We should shoot for about an early-on 6% consumption reduction via natural gas on the vehicle side

The benefit of natural gas is that it is already pipelined; so requires minimal infrastructure...also minimum changes in vehicular technology...California was test bed in early 2000's.

Power generation currently accounts for about 3% of consumption.
What excites you about this campaign?
The possibility that we convert enough fossil fuel energy from heating and power generation to natural gas usage to obtain a significant reduction (at least 17%) within five years
What do you want to do to help?
There has to be massive grass roots support to buy OEM or convert vehicles to natural gas....also to allow wind farms to be intermingled with agriculture. Iowa is a conservative state, so that the State administration and legislature will have to buy into this. I'm not a good speaker...but I'm a good detail person and an excellent writer

Hi Terry,

Please take a look at the executive summary on my page. We are in the process of establishing a nonprofit innovation laboratory in Houston Texas dedicated to inspiring young people to pursue technology careers and to the development of the next-generation of strategic technologies to meet our current global challenges. Alternative energy is a major focus of our program.
Right now, we are in need of people willing to sponsor our efforts or to finding sponsorship for us.
We believe this can be the beginning of an effort that can spread to other areas of the country and create a critical mass of new technology ideas and innovative technologists to meet the challenges.

Any assistance you could provide would be appreciated.

Best Regards,

Norman
