Are you interested in becoming an organizer in your area?
Maybe--But Not Sure What to Organize
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
When one lives in a small, rural northern Indiana town, the economy is dependent on traditional sources of energy. Although I read widely, and have traveled some in former years, I have had little to no contact with alternative energy of which I've been aware. Interestingly, the Amish who live around us use many forms of alternative energy since they eschew being connected to the electric grid.
What excites you about this campaign?
It's exciting that someone of economic stature has taken a leadership role to get this country on the track to energy independence. I can foresee a synergy begin to coalesce between private and public efforts, but it needs good leadership and people willing to stick out their necks. The American people are primed and ready to work on this movement. Our effort to win political independence required people of vision who were willing to quite literally put their necks on the line for the good of an emerging nation. The current crisis requires that same fortitude and intellectural inspiration.
What do you want to do to help?
I am currently in the process of changing career tracks and have little time for anything but scratching out an existence and filling out applications. But, if there is a way I could help, I certainly will do what I can. If I can secure a teaching position soon, that will free me up to help with efforts like this.

Hi Timothy,

A great way to help america become more energy independant is to simply use less energy.

I live in an apartment (so solar panels and a tankless water heater are out of the question) and I play drums for a living (so public transportation is difficult... try loading a drumset onto a bus or train, especially after a late-night gig) and I dont at the moment have the money for a new more efficient car.

HOWEVER, I've been doing a bunch of research on how to help. I believe that we are all faced with hundreds of little decisions every day... making easy choices can reduce our energy use, (and therefore our oil consumption)... and side benefits include lower energy bills, higher gas mileage in any car, and a healthier lifestyle.
I wrote a blog entry about it here http://push.pickensplan.com/forum/topic/show?id=2187034%3ATopic%3A193424

If you have a moment, check it out, drop me a line, let me know what you think. I appreciate any advice, input, and ideas.
