No
Tell us about your experience with alternative energy:
Very little experience here in Hawaii though if it becomes law concerning the use of solar heated water, I hope to gain more experience.
What excites you about this campaign?
Here in Hawaii we live on an active volcano, 21 degrees above the equator in the middle of the ocean. Wind is great but what we need is geo-thermal, solar and energy from the ocean. I don't get it!!!
What do you want to do to help?
I am calling all my friends and have been bugging the heck out of my elected officials. They are full of excuses. I also want to help promote Murdock's efforts on Lanai.

Aloha to the Hawaiian Regiment of the Pickens Army!

The boss need each of us to contact our U.S. Senators and ask them to support the Pickens Plan components of the stimulus package.

Here’s some words from Boone you might consider using:

“A high percentage of our oil still comes from foreign countries. Even in December, as the economy was contracting, we imported nearly 70 percent of the oil we used and paid over $19 billion for it.

I am very interested in the aspects of The American Renewal and Reinvestment Act (H.R. 1) that include the promotion of alternative energy - wind and solar; the building out of a 21st century electrical transmission grid; and incenting trucking companies to upgrade from trucks running on foreign diesel to those running on domestic natural gas.

A Department of Energy study showed that developing our capacity to produce wind energy would not only replace 20 percent of the electricity we now produce using coal-burning plants, but would add 138,000 jobs in the first year and more than 3.4 million over a ten-year span.

Also, if we switch just 350,000 of the 6.5 million heavy trucks running on the nation's Interstate Highways to domestic natural gas from imported diesel, we could cut our oil imports by over five percent. In December alone that would have kept nearly $1 billion from being shipped off shore.

I hope you will join me in supporting these components of the Pickens Plan as H.R. 1 moves toward final passage.”

----------

Remember, whatever ill befalls the Mainland economy, worse will happen to Hawaii. If we loose the energy sector of the economy we’ll loose all of the benefits of the Industrial Revolution, and Hawaiians will once again go sailing to fish the Northwest Islands in the likes of HOKULE’A and MAKALI’I.

Hi Todd,
Sounds like the politicians are in charge of stuff they shouldn't be there. That is a common ailment. Put them in charge of education and kids don't get as good of an education as we did once. Give them reign over the housing/mortgage market and we get an enormous bill after 100,000s people get wrapped up in bad loans and lose their homes and their confidence in the american dream and we pay a huge ransom to wall street to boot. One can argue that the Bailout was a global melt down but We know that some individuals made out on the taxpayers tab, a redistribution of wealth, I guess. Put them in charge of testing Food and Drugs and they encourage us to use plastics on an everyday basis and allow imported foods to be tainted with melamine, both of which are linked to health issues in children. The list of government failures goes on and on. I'm not surprised that in Hawaii you don't have equipment big enough to give you the power you wanted in the first place. Another page of the same bad story. This book just goes on and on.

Aloha Todd,
I imagine that gas prices in Hawaii are higher than here in California. Islanders know better than us the price of importing. Keep after those officials, old habits are real hard to break. They need to hear that the alternatives are safe and clean over and over before they will listen. Solar, wind and geothermal are "island paradise" alternatives and they are GREEN too. Keep writing those letters, keep talking to people, they are listening, your part of the solution. Changing is hard for most of us and it takes time. We can't afford to stop or give up on ourselves.

Hi Todd

The petition is basically one downloaded pledge and add a sheet to it to gather supoorters for Pickens PLan!

I have found that petitions are the best way to spread the word AND sign up supporters.

Here is HOW TO TURN THE PLEDGE INTO A PETITION!

I find it easiest to take one pledge, cut off Boone's lines under the pledge and add a sheet of lined paper under the pledge instead. I put NAME - ADDRESS - EMAIL across the top and fill in the first line to set the format. Most are more willing to sign where others have already done so, rather than the single pledge at a time approach. Everyone understands a petition.
I ask if they would "sign this petition in support of T, Boone Pickens energy plan to get us off of foreign oil?" Hand them the clipboard so they can read it. I do not require the signers to give me their email if they are reticent - don't let that be a deal breaker - some just do not want to give it.

Check out the 100CLUB group page to see how others have accomplished the task. (it is the first goup on my page) When you send/fax in 100, let me know, we will gladlyinvite you to be a member of the 100CLUB. Your leadership on this will inspire thousands!

There are over 150 people in the pledge challenge that I know of right now. Surely, there are many more that I am unaware of, as it is in many greetings. Those 150 willl bring 15,000 new members. If each brings just 5 friends, these 150 will be responsible for 75,000 new members.

This is the approach that works best for me - I tried many. Hopefully, this will encourage you to take the challenge, too. CAN YOU HELP?

When will we ever have a golden opportunity like this again?

BEST
KIM

Hi Todd

If you keep the petitin with you, it does not take a lot of time. If you have been speaking with peole about it, just get them to sign that they suport it. One bite at a time eats the apple. 7 a day, in 2 weeks equals 100 signatures. We would be honored to have you in the 100CLUB!

Thanks
Kim

We really need people to step up. Glad you did. We can do this.

Hey Todd,

Can you help with the petitions? Force your leaders to pay attention from the bottom up. Grass roots will get this done!

The best way to make the politicians sto being a bunch of blow hards is to build this effort to the point where it will be political suicide for them to ignore it!

Please read my latest blog... HOW TO TURN A PLEDGE INTO A PETITION - everyone understands petitions. This is the help we need to build this army. We can not let this narrowing window of opportunity slip by. When will we ever get a chance like this to really effect change again? I hope you can help. If you get 100 signatures, let me know, it would an honor to invite you into the 100CLUB.

I was able to get 300+ in the first 4 days. It is an easy ask - Boone has done the hard work. Everyone wants to get off of foreign oil. We are creating a paradigm shift- a completely new way of thinking - about energy in this country. We need more support. ARE YOU IN?

Best

Hi Todd,
I learned after joing PickensPlan that Hawaii is probably THE most oil dependent state. I hope your state can make some progress and become a model for the future.
Welcome and THANK YOU for joining Pickens Plan.
Here are a few ways that you can help.

SHARE THE PLAN
with your circle of friends, family and associates. Urge them to JOIN. From your own experience you know it is very much like simply signing a petition. The larger our membership the more likely we will be successful in getting Congress to provide effective incentives for alternative and renewable energies and in insuring that our future president will treat energy independence as a matter of the greatest urgency, applying the same kind of leadership as JFK exercised when he led us with his stirring challenge to put a man on the moon in 10 years. Please take the time today to bring 5 new members to the site.

THERE IS NO TIME TO DELAY
…to wait and see…or to see if someone else will step up to the plate. It is time for US to roll up our sleeves and go to work. Right now momentum is working in our favor, but if gas prices retreat, the public will forget the pain, and our moment may be lost. How frightening to think that we could be looking back and apologizing to our children that we could not to get this done when we had the chance.

Feel free to add me as a friend. I would be happy to answer any questions about the plan or navigation of the site.

PERSONAL ACTION OPTIONS
We need to do more than “preach to the choir”. Sharing ideas with each other is encouraging but that will not 1) increase our membership nor 2) influence public policy. If you know someone in the press or someone who blogs - get them to cover this. Write to your Congressman/woman. Ask those in the public eye to support this plan. Print downloadable flyers and put them in your car and/or business window.

A GROUP FOR EVERYONE
Check out the many groups for Solar, CNG, scientists, hydrogen etc. Connect, learn and share. We grow stronger with your input. If you don't see a group that speaks to your interest, then start a group of your own.

Thanks again for joining us in this historical effort.
