Jack,
I just read your e-mail on Boons Energy Summit and what really caught my eye is the sentence about starting a business to retrofit homes for alternative energy. You read my mind on this thinking, as I have been looking on line at courses around the State of Florida and have found a few, but I thought I'd give you a shout to see if you had suggestions on any in particular. I feel that grants will be allocated for solar first and I would really like to be in a position to make a career out of being able to evaluate, bid and install proper equipment for individual needs. Any suggestions you would have in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you...Vicki Cochrane
Hi Skaggs,
Thanks for your comment. There are many courses available all over the country for theses studies. Although I don't have a personal favorite...a simple key word search which includes your location (zip code) should produce a variety of choices.
It's good to learn about the segment of the retrofit market which includes collection systems such as solar, etc.; but I believe the most immediate and accessible part of this growing and high potential marketplace, which requires the least amount of investment for entreprenuers is the upgrade and repair work required for our nations vast number (10's of millions) of homes which require better insulation, tighter windows, sealing of the perimeter, attic insulation, etc..
This is a necessary process with a ready made and extensive marketplace. Even relatively new homes are underinsulated and loosley constructed. I've been connected to building for almost 50 years and have seen it all. The responsibilty is shared by uneducated consumers, lack of government emphasis and deficient local standards by municipalities in acceptable building codes.
Bad for us as a society...but very good for those interested in issues of energy conservation and the environment who are also seeking employment and/or a viable and relevant business opportunity. In our area some have begun business models which include energy analysis of an existing home and then offer a connection either directly or by referral to the resources for doing the repairs.
I believe it's a worthwhile and necessary service and has a high potential for success as a business model. There is nothing wrong with doing well while doing good.
I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide. Keep me posted.

We’re very happy to have you riding with us. With you and 1.4 million others on this ride, maybe we’ll actually get this thing done. Keep you horse watered and your powder dry. It's going to be a long dusty ride.

There will be people there and the event will go on, but we have been asking AutoNation to get on board and carry CNG vehicles for almost a year and a poor attendance will not go a long way in our argument. I look forward to meeting you on Tuesday and keep the faith, we will continue to push forward.
PLEASE TAKE A PLEDGE TO WORK TODAY!
I am asking everyone to please take petitions to school or work or wherever you are going today! It is very easy. Kim Anderson was able to gather 75 signatures Thursday and Friday while Christmas shopping and running errands. Everyone wants to get off of foreign oil; we just need to gather their names. WE CAN DO THIS, with everyone’s help.

Doug has been steady at the tiller with consistent effort and kept at it until he was done. I am inspired by his tenaciousness. I hope you are motivated by his success.
