I have started a Regional group, welcoming comments, ideas, and suggestions for Renewable Energy in the NW Region. Including states from the Pacific, Cascade and Rocky Mountain areas. I realize that some of my Pickens Plan friends are outside this region, but you are always welcome to join and add your thoughts to the discussion. We should be looking at best available sources of energy in our region, and ways to improve the power grid to transfer energy from region to region as it is needed.

Do wind turbines make much sound?
There are some that are already meeting with some limited success, such as wind energy. Solar power is also coming up but needs to be improved in terms of solar cell efficiency and extended.
However, none of these by themselves can provide radical solutions. Storage is a problem and you cannot fill your gas tank with wind energy. Electric cars, in my opinion, will not become really popular until recharging will be down to ten minutes. This is not happen in the near future.
However, there are two approaches that may offer fairly broad and radical changes. One, in my opinion, is within easy rich. The other is at the other end of a long development cycle. I am always tempted to choose one program that requires minimal development time and effort, and the other that is ideal and offers a radical solution, but requires a major system development and expenditure.
The within easy rich one is the algae oil. In 1998 the Department of Energy published a report on carbon dioxide sequestration by using it as food for growing algae. This algae also produces up to 50% of dry weight in oil that can be used as diesel oil. At that time diesel fuel market price was $1.03 /gal and algae oil was judged too expensive at the estimated $2.06/gal. Assuming that, with inflation, it may now cost $3.09/gal, it still would be an obvious bargain. We know how to produce algae, but the process may not be “optimized” at this moment. This should be a good subject for experimentation to study fertilizing, determining the best growth temperature, etc. These are only technicalities that can be easily determined over the next two years. The process of building this industry is basically building gigantic swimming pools. Once the method is established, it would take off like wild fire. There is nothing high-technology or really expensive about it. The government should spend its resources on supporting research to optimize the process. The current system of fuel storage, distribution, and use could be used.
The long shot solution is producing hydrogen for hydrogen economy. Here, there are a number of developmental issues. Hydrogen can be produced today from natural gas, but this is no improvement: there is no infinite supply of the gas and carbon is a byproduct. We need to decompose water by means of sun generated electricity. So, we need an enormous amount of high-efficiency solar plants; we need a way of storing enormous quantities of hydrogen for winter period. This includes question of how would we store it ? In gas form? In hydrate form? How would we distribute it to filling stations? High pressure hydrogen (an explosive substance) pipelines? Feeding hydrates to the car tanks? Etc. This kind of decisions require long term developments and building an entirely new industry and distribution system to high. It would however, solve all of our environmental and energy problems.
After you get your friends to join the site, and send your letters off to Congress....I hope you will work to join the "100CLUB"... for members that have faxed in 100 or more signed pledges.
PLEDGES are the vehicle that can drive our numbers, we need to use them! It is a very easy ask- Boone has done the hard work. All we need to do is hitch our wagon to his horse and plow to the finish. I have sent in 300+ so far. We have 48 friends, that I know of, who are working on the challenge. By the end of the week that will be 5,000 new supporters of this plan- 4 times the number that joined the plan online this week.... with just 49 people!
IMAGINE what we could do if everyone that said they would do
anything they could to get this done, joined the "100CLUB"
It comes down to.... DO WE HAVE THE FORTITUDE? I hope so. We aren't asking folks to take up arms. But this IS our revolution. And we have a very small window to get it done. Would like your help.
.
ARE YOU IN?
Best
Kim
Thanks I did get Him and hopefully I'll get to met him on Sunday.
thanks for writing, I guess thats were we come in and do our best to make sure it gets to the President. and then flood his email box with a millon of us, I bet their system is getting overloaded by now.
Keep up the good fight my friend:o}
