400 Gigatons of METHANE - - CH4, purest natural gas - - started escaping from (melting) permafrost areas, and Washington pays no attention.

Organic decomposition forms methane.

Over thousands of years methane has been deposited in "permafrost" tundra areas (poles) as "clathrate" and under cold water areas.. The total is estimated as 400 Gigatons, enough energy for hundreds of years.

Recently 344 acres - - CH4 released from permafrost area - - burned. Very, VERY BAD!

Methane burns to form CO2: CH4 + 2 O2 ------> CO2 + 2 H2O

Why does Washington not pay attention to this?

My guess is that… Continue

US Wind Industry Breaks Installation Record in ?09

The U.S. wind industry has broken all records with the announcement that nearly 10,000 megawatts (MW) of new generating capacity was installed in 2009?enough to serve more than 2.4 million homes for one year. This according to the Q4 report released by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). However, not all the news was good as the U.S. still lags in manufacturing; yet the recent… Continue

Green jobs push in california

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wants more green jobs in california. And he is pushing tax incentives to get them.

One california newspaper is quoting the governator: "a sales tax exemption for California's cleantech producers will help the state retain and expand a competitive advantage in a growth industry". He said that during a recent visit to a solar-panel manufacturer in Richmond. "Jobs, jobs, jobs,"… Continue

UT Arlington Formula SAE

Saturday, 1/23/10, the OKstate Racing team visited the University of Arlington's FSAE team. A team that has won more championships than any other Formula SAE team has in the history of the series. Our intentions were to go, look around, and learn as much as possible.

Spending a considerable amount of time with Dr. Bob Woods, the team Adviser and the man who wrote the FSAE rules back in 1983, our team toured the facilities and saw how the team produced composites, welded the frame,… Continue

New Directions in Transmission

In countries around the world, there is a growing need to move what is expected to be significant amounts of wind, solar and hydro-generated electricity from sparsely populated remote regions to the cities where demand is great.

This has ignited a quest for new high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage transmission systems that can carry more electricity longer distances. And to be sure these systems work properly, there is a growing need for test facilities to evaluate and certify the new… Continue

Politicos Must Wake Up and Smell the Pickens Plan

New Orleans CityBusiness

By Mark Singletary

I often find myself amazed and captivated by abstract thoughts.

Last week I focused my thinking on the Pickens Plan and wondered why so many others apparently haven’t.

T. Boone Pickens is a multimillionaire who made his money finding, drilling and producing oil and gas wells. He has given away a lot of his wealth, too, particularly to Oklahoma State University.

He’s wealthy, relatively famous and, at… Continue

Don’t Let Health Care Overshadow Much-Needed Energy Legislation

By T. Boone Pickens 01/26/10 at 12:15 am

Without getting into a partisan argument regarding the meaning of the special election for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts, we do know that the health care legislation will have to be reviewed, reset, reworked or retired.

It is time that the House and Senate move to other areas of great public importance, if only because this is an even-numbered year—and that means Election Day is approaching. No matter what else happens, on Nov. 2,… Continue

Why do we need Washington?

I'm just not convinced we need Washington to make this happen. Did Henry Ford need Washington to start building cars? I'm probably over simplifying it, but it seems to me that the market alone can support this movement. If what Boone says is correct and natural gas is significantly cheaper that gasoline, then we just need two things - vehicles and refueling stations. The cost will drive the demand. We have refueling stations. All we need is to add natural gas pumps to them; probably starting… Continue

HAVE NO FEAR, BAC WILL ALWAYS BE HERE

PART 1,,,

STOP!!!! NO FEAR FOR BAC!

below is what was said thursday, but nobody has talked about who is who. if you own Goldman and JPmorgan then you might have a little concern, but would you really? i bet if you let goldman and jp morgan whisper in your ear if they had worries they would tell you hell know.

why? because they just became banks for the low interest fed loans. they weren't banks before the crash, they were investment centers. they just saw, design, whatever you… Continue

Our Washington Congress and Senate, biggest obstacles in achieving a common-sense approach to US energy independence, environment, and health care?

Sadly enough, our Congress and Senate are - - as many believe - - paid off by special interests, and will do anything for money, THUS ELIMINATING OUR CHANCES FOR US ENERGY INDEPENDENCE, BALANCING THE ENVIRONMENT, AND A COMMON-SENSE HEALTH CARE PROGRAM.

Recall the great supporter of our environment, Obama, expressing that reducing the CO2 burden on the environment must have a # 1 priority? - - - - and then, immediately after being elected, letting the coal industry know… Continue

A Green Economy And Market ~ When?

The green economy and market begins right now. For those of us who believe and are concerned. However, the idea that anyone one of us can devote time to a cause. And organize people. Which is a big job to say the least! And do so, for a long period of time. Without reward and or compensation. Is not reality. Anyone who tells us that we can make a change, in the near future. And that we can do so with devoting un compensated and unemployed time to the cause. Is not seeing the reality of the… Continue

Boone on the John Stossel show.

I watched Boone on the John Stossel show last night. I didn't think Boone came off very well. He did a poor job of justifying why government subsidies are needed for the programs he is advocating. I can't remember a single government subsidy program that ended up being a good deal for tax payers, can you? Ethanol was promoted by many and that sure hasn't helped do anything but drive up the cost of groceries and drain away a lot of tax dollars on subsidies. What good does it do us to reduce oil… Continue
