By Jeff Latzke

With a black Sharpie marker, T. Boone Pickens mapped out for Barack Obama the way to U.S. energy independence — right there on a white tablecloth.

It was a demonstration he wouldn't soon forget. After Pickens' wife encountered Obama at a function this week in Las Vegas, she relayed word that the president was still astounded by her husband's indelible markings.

"America is at a crossroads" sounds like tired campaign rhetoric, but when it comes to energy policy, we are in the middle of the intersection.

Since July 8, 2008, when I launched the Pickens Plan to reduce our escalating dependence on foreign oil, I have talked about that dependence as the greatest threat to our economy and our national security. Our… Continue

HuffPo: The Oil Price Roller Coaster is on the Upswing

The latest column from Boone at the Huffington Post:

The Oil Price Roller Coaster is on the Upswing

It has been nine months since oil hit its high of $147 per barrel and the price of gasoline at the pump in the United States topped $4 per gallon for regular. In California, gasoline topped out at an average of $4.43 per gallon. Since then, the worldwide recession dampened worldwide demand and oil fell to about $39 per barrel in February of this year.

Boone's take on the first 100 days

"In his first 100 days, President Obama moved aggressively to push a stimulus plan that jump-starts our nation’s move to renewable energy, particularly wind and solar. That’s great, and I’m optimistic that he recognizes the need to address the economic and national security threat of foreign oil.

"He has promised to end imports from the Middle East within 10 years, and the only way he can do that is to replace foreign oil/diesel in transportation with domestic fuels, and the only way… Continue

Georgia passed HB 473 on Earth Day - promoting alternative fuel use by business

GA took a huge step to wean businesses off foreign oil this Earth Day by subsidizing the use of alternative energy. Gov. Sonny Perdue signed HB 473, which provides grants up to $100,000 for solar thermal and $500,000 for Photovoltaic systems, as well as similar incentives for energy efficiency. The only caveat is the grants are capped at $25 million, and will be given on a first come, first served basis. If these grants are exhausted quickly, which we hope will be the case, there will be moves… Continue

The Pickens Plan Marches on Washington – The Huffington Post – 4/9/09

By T. Boone Pickens

$18 billion. Sound like a lot of money? It sure does to me. The worst part is that's how much Americans shelled out last month to import 386 million barrels of oil.
