Scott Baker Meeting on Marcellus Shale sponsored by Community Board 8 in NYC

II attended a sparsely attended meeting regarding the possibility of drilling for NG in the Marcellus Shale region last night, sponsored by local Community Board 8 in Manhattan. The Marcellus Shale is home to 90% of New York City's drinking water. Although there were only about a dozen audience members, some of whom served on the community board, those who were there knew what they were talking about, and about the dangers of commercial fracturing to obtain Natural Gas (NG). For example, here is good old Dover, DE, the local power plant burns fuel oil to make electric. That means constant rate hikes and pollution. In my community, we need to do something like solar on every roof to get off foreign oil. Up the road a ways, they use power from a nuclear plant in Jersey. Their efforts could be first geared towards… Continue
