Mike Johnston Natural Gas Fuel; A Bridge To....What?

Last year T. Boone Pickens brought the concept of natural gas as a vehicle fuel into the national stream of consciousness when he launched his “Pickens Plan”. Since then the concept has evolved to the point where there are several pieces of legislation making their way through Congress (Natural Gas Act of 2009)and the Senate which will encourage the more widespread implementation of this “green” fossil fuel. Recent estimates of the natural gas reserves in the United States indicate that we have… Continue

Mike Johnston Will Toyota Corner The Hydrogen Vehicle Market In 2015?

Recently Toyota announced that they would be introducing a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in 2015 which would "shock" the US auto market. Assuming that to be true one has to wonder more about how they are going to do it than if they are going to do it. Toyota isn't stupid and to evolve transportation in a new direction would be a marketing coup even bigger than what they achieved with the extremely popular Prius hybrid. The development of a cheap fuel cell vehicle that is priced competitively with… Continue

Renew_H2_Man Environmental Cost of Gasoline Usage

One kilogram of gaseous Hydrogen is the energy equivalent of one gallon of gasoline. Now, if we combust the gasoline in an internal combustion engine, we'll get about 12% of the gasoline's energy actually putting the vehicle into linear motion down the road. If we take one kilogram of Hydrogen and fuel an internal combustion engine with it, we'll only get about half the distance of the SAME vehicle using the 1 kilogram of Hydrogen in a fuel cell powering the car. We'll get about 23.8 lbs of CO2… Continue

Michael Thompson This is the first step

The energy solution is an all of the above option since every alternative source will reduce the consumption of oil. However, the free market will determine which alternative can most cost effectively replace oil. For example, with the cost of oil below $80; ethanol becomes a less desireable option due to the cost to convert. Every option should be explored and further developed including: wind, solar, nuclear, wave technology, methane (from landfills), ethanol, clean coal, fuel cell technology,… Continue

Charles Jones Home Mortgage Bailout by Uncle Sam

I studied the problem facing the US Banks and Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac over the issue of $700 billion loan to the Banks to payoff Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac and to allow the FHA to reorganize those Mortgages. If their plan works the problem will still affect the stock market adversely and foreign nations will still tighten their belts against US Interests. It became interesting as I had my own suspicion of why the problem occurred but it could be more severe when adding to it the reasoning… Continue

Dave Brundage Combine Technologies to Improve Car Range

Combine Technologies to Improve Car Range Pickens Plan gave me an idea to combine the technology of the Toyota Prius, wind turbines, compressed air and solar power. Here it is for any engineer that would like to make a billion dollars! Compressed Air Car! Build a power train to include an air compressor, lithium battery power source, and place for miniature wind turbines in the front grill that would be attached to power a generator to help keep the battery system charged when the car is in m… Continue

Mike Johnston The Boiler Cell

This is a paper I wrote a few years ago in relation to experiments I was doing with water and electricity. Obviously they can be dangerous so I don't encourage anyone to do them at home.

I have been posting reports on this effect to various lists for some time now. This is the first time however that I have tried to put together a paper on it. This is because I don't have a complete explanation for what is… Continue

Arrow MIT announces major breakthrough

Solar Energy: MIT announces major breakthrough by litho Thu Jul 31, 2008 at 05:48:26 PM PDT Within 10 years, homeowners [may] be able to power their homes in daylight through photovoltaic cells, while using excess solar energy to produce hydrogen and oxygen to power their own household fuel cell. Electricity-by-wire from a central source could be a thing of the past. MIT chemistry professor Daniel Nocera has published in today's issue of the journal Science an article (subscribers only) anno… Continue
