Greenhouse gas emissions form the combustion of fossil fuels such as oil and coal has had detrimental effects on the environment over the last several hundred years. Global warming, in part, has been attributed to those greenhouse gas emissions. Combustion of fossil fuels such as oil and coal results in a variety of pollutants including carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, particulates, and mercury. Numerous initiatives are in place or being put in place trying to de…

U.S. consumers pay much less for their energy, per kilowatt, than consumers in most industrialized nations. Yet electricity and fuel prices typically fail to reflect the full cost of energy production and consumption, especially in terms of health effects.
The U.S. Congress requested a clarification of "hidden" energy costs as part of its 2005 energy bill. The result, released on Monday, concluded that the external effects of burning fossil fuels cost the United States more than $120 billion in…

The net effect of restrictions on mountaintop removal on the Central Appalachian economy is uncertain, but a growing body of evidence suggests that the region’s dependence on coal for jobs has not proved a boon. Economic diversification in Central Appalachia would promote a healthier, more stable economy. Research continues to shed more light on the economic and health costs of coal mining.

Showalter Micropower Project would like to help remove a black mark on WV hills. What we would like to do for a mining company (any mining company in WV) is to produce 8 MW of power from natural gas and to sell that power for 1/2 price to the mining company. On peak of .04 per kw per hour. The kicker is we want to use the C02 from the natural gas gen-sets to fast grow trees to be replanted on the mined-out part of the strip. Trees would be free of charge to the minig company. (If they replant th…

I saw a legislator on CNN yesterday talking about how renewable energy gets a huge amount of money in government subsidies and how that ought to be taken away. That made me wonder just how much fossil and nuclear fuels recieve in subsidies and how much Exxon raked in while we were all paying 4$ a gallon for gasoline during their 14 billion dollar profit quarter last year.
I found
a page from the Energy Information Agency…

Not to long ago I was talking with Joseph Tatrai ' s Son about a person (Joe Papp ) that built a engine - actualy a fuel system for a ,and, engine patent #4428193 . this engine runs on next to nothing . seems the fuel system is a mix of gases that normaly will not burn .The fuel Helium Neon,Argon ,Krypton ,Xenon when a mix of these gases are crushed and interduced to a plasma like spark that starts the gases to fuse for a second then fall apart as the spark stops .Giving off some energy as the g…

The following post is a copy of part an article from Greenpeace that I totally agree with.
"Trick or Treat? It's hard to tell these days what's a trick and what's a treat when it comes to energy. Ideas like "Clean Coal" and nuclear power may sound like solutions to oil and gas dependency, but in reality, these negative energy sources should be avoided at all cost (and they DO cost!).
Don't let a mask like "clean" coal fool you into thinking coal is safe. Underneath the industry's costum…

The energy solution is an all of the above option since every alternative source will reduce the consumption of oil. However, the free market will determine which alternative can most cost effectively replace oil. For example, with the cost of oil below $80; ethanol becomes a less desireable option due to the cost to convert. Every option should be explored and further developed including: wind, solar, nuclear, wave technology, methane (from landfills), ethanol, clean coal, fuel cell technology,…

Overview
Resources and Consumption
Alabama is rich in energy resources. The State has considerable conventional and unconventional natural gas reserves, substantial deposits of coal, and numerous rivers capable of hydroelectric generation. Several regions of Alabama are well suited for growing switchgrass, making the State a potential site for the installation of bioenergy plants. With a strong manufacturing base in paper products, chemicals, and textiles, Alabama’s industri…

I just was reading the new legislation called the American Energy Act. It gave me an epiphany. The more sun and wind we use, the more coal we could send to the refinery instead of the power plant.
Even though I already knew it,
we can make COAL into Gasoline. That is a great way to keep energy domestic, if we could make 2-10% of our gas from coal, we would be in good shape. Using coal with biomass would likely make a good mix for syngas generation. This means we can water down our coal w…

The Internet Green Guide.com, owned by Brent Teague, received responses from people sharing about the pitfalls with "PickensPlan." Most people are unconcerned whether T. Boone Pickens becomes profitable from developing the "best" energy plan for our future, as they are capitalists themselves and believe in making a buck, but there is some of that and it will be addressed toward the end of this article. The majority of concern is the strength of Pickens' plan and whether he has taken adequate tim…

the damn Wall Street crowd only adheres to the '''WHAT have you done for me Today'''' syndrome of Investing..........as OIL drops, the interest to INVEST into Renewables Drops..........plain and simple, the MOVE to Renewables is dependent on the current OIL and Coal Prices...........OIL is down $5 per barrel and the price of Coal has fallen 50% in last month..............NOT good for Renewables and Investments into renewables!!!

DENVER - Kansas Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson told Democratic National Convention delegates Tuesday that the state is emerging as a national leader in alternative energy.
About a year ago, Parkinson said, Kansas had 364 megawatts of wind power. At year's end, it will produce 1,015 megawatts, making Kansas No. 7 in the nation in wind production.
"We'll be doing it all without mandates," he said.
Parkinson is Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' point man on meeting her goal of producing 10 percent of Kansas' ene…

This is an
essential book for anyone interested in energy issues. I wish it had "Energy" in the title. I bought this book in August of this year, 2008, it's publication year. The author, Richard A. Muller, is a professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley.
The readers from this website will be interested in the sections II ENERGY, III NUKES, V GLOBAL WARMING.
The section II on ENERGY includes 3 subsections: "Key Energy Surprises", "Solar Power", and "The End of Oil". T…

Yesterday I attended a webinar on clean coal or coal to hydrogen technology. I think that this technology represents a way for us to transition from our current energy sources to a viable hydrogen economy in both the electric and vehicular fuel areas.
When producing hydrogen from coal steam and coal (or another hydrocarbon) are reacted with each other and the hydrogen produced comes from the water primarily or partially depending on the hydrocarbon used. Plus they are focusing mostly on fuel ce…

Wind only works if you are supplementing a running power generator and REDUCING how much fuel you burn. It will not work as a stand along source. It has to be done in lock step with other forms of energy and distribution.
