I came across this video today and thought it was just an amazing story. An impoverished 20 year old boy living in Malawi, taught himself how to make a windmill. Recognizing that wind was in abundance where he lived, William was able to construct windmills using materials available and brought running water and electricity to his village for the first time.
This is a truly remarkable and inspirational story. What are your thoughts? Continue

The following proposal shows how it may be possible to phase in wind and solar to generate energy savings to subsidize our health care system reforms.
The current proposals in Washington include new deficit spending of $120 Billion per year to pay for proposed health care reform and new industrial taxes on fossil fuel burning companies which will be passed on to consumers in higher energy prices...........a pass-thru tax.

With the continuous expansion of The Pickens Plan, I would also like to mention something that I believe will interest everyone.
I have just confirmed through the grapevine that Green Wave Evergy Corp intends to launch a competition among small towns and cities across America.
The purpose of the competition? To give-away a 350kw-rated Wave Generating Power Plant (valued at over $350,000).
At th… Continue
The deafening silence of our drive back from Schulenburg Texas to Dallas made me reminisce the sight of immense wind turbines silhouetted against the Texas skies on our way back from our holiday vacation in Cloudcroft New Mexico. The ever-present breeze that sweeps the treeless T… Continue
The link below will take you to a story from a science tech site called dvice.com They have some really interesting tech stuff going on there .
This set up can power up to 1500 homes and is small in comparison to what they say can be done with the oceans. The biggest cost is the equipment , power lines and maintenance. The waves are free so there is no fuel cost.

OverviewResources and Consumption
Alabama is rich in energy resources. The State has considerable conventional and unconventional natural gas reserves, substantial deposits of coal, and numerous rivers capable of hydroelectric generation. Several regions of Alabama are well suited for growing switchgrass, making the State a potential site for the installation of bioenergy plants. With a strong manufacturing base in paper products, chemicals, and textiles, Alabama’s industri… Continue

I support renewable energy research. However short term do you realize how much electricity can be saved without impacting on our daily lives at all?
Firstly turn off unused lights and turn off all appliances such as TV’s, Stereos, DVD players etc that usually are kept in Standby Mode.
When buying new appliances check the energy rating. Refuse to buy a ‘Brand Name” if it cannot show the highest energy rating. You would be surprised at how many appliances do not stack up and by how much.
If ev… Continue

Have you tried switching to green electricity yet? Ambit offers an electricity/energy plan that is 100% green energy, generated from wind power...
All residential power users have to do is switch. Nothing changes except where the energy comes from. There is no cost involved at all. No need to invest in $50,000 towers or panels that look ugly and need regular maintenance as well as specialized knowledge that few people have out there yet.
Have you tried comparing electricity rates yet?

It is important to be conservative in estimating how long it will take to transform our energy paradigm and energy economy to self-renewing nonpolluting, hazard-free technologies.
It is also important to remember that, when Americans put our minds to it, amazing accomplishments are possible. We converted from a peace-time industry to one that put out enough tanks, airplanes, trucks and warships to win WW II, in literally MONTHS. In the 1960's, when the scientists said it couldn't be done, we sen… Continue

Be careful how you analyze the time to payoff residential PV solar investments.
Since solar panels generate no electricity at night, not much when it is cloudy and less in the winter than in the summer due to the sun angle, it is risky to assume you can eliminate your entire monthly electricity bill. To actually provide all of your electricity, you will need a backup battery system. Although PV systems are somewhat expensive, battery backup systems are very expensive.
