Mark Patrick McGrath Renewable energies are not just America's dream…

One thing I am certain of is that America, the west and other "civil" people have wonderful ideas that know no border. For this reason I believe with a high degree of certainty that America is behind in innovative thought implementation. Perhaps we will lose the greatest race of the 21st century to be free of the trappings of globally destructive practices. However, there is a glimmer of hope that a moon shot toward sustainable living via wind, solar, tide and yes, coal could save our sovereignt… Continue

Renew_H2_Man Satellite Solar Power Station ("SSPS") Revisited---by the Japanese This Time Around

Harvesting solar power from space through orbiting solar farms sounds extremely interesting. Mitsubishi Electric Corp., a manufacturer of solar panels, has decided to join an AUD $25 billion Japanese project to construct a massive solar farm in space within three decades. Japan has already started working towards achieving its goal by developing a technology for 1-gigawatt solar farm, which would include four square kilometers of solar panels that will be stationed 36,000 kilometers above the e… Continue

Laurence W. Tobin Compressed Air Energy Storage with Wind Energy Resources

Despite the favorable wind resource conditions the biggest hurdle faced by the wind industry in trying to increase the amount of wind development is the current state of transmission rules that create economic penalties for intermittent (interruptible) resources such as wind. By firming the resource and providing capacity value, Compressed Air Energy Storage (“CAES”) may be able to mitigate many transmission related costs that are currently seen as onerous for wind development. The biggest inst… Continue

W. Dan Chance Cheap Energy with New Solar Device

Alternative Energy eNewsletter, November 11th, 2009 Solar Energy Device Researchers and scientists are putting on endless effort to make the sources of energy clean and green. There are many devices in the market that run on solar energy. The alternative energy atmosphere is charged with anticipation and excitement. But till now one of the biggest dampeners in green energy scenario is the prices. Fossil fuels are available cheaply all over the world. But solar, wind, geothermal or biofuels are… Continue

Francis Jock China manufacturers Inexpensive Wind Turbines for Mass Consumption

A recent news report mentioned that Chinese manufacturers were heeding the call to make low-cost wind turbines for worldwide distribution. With soaring energy demand in China alone, they have good reason to do so. Naturally, there are other burgeoning nations with high energy demands that stand to benefit from low cost energy products, as well. The list of these nations includes India and Brazil, so between the three of them there is sure to be enough business to last half a millennium. Have Am… Continue

BruceD Every Color Of The Rainbow Is An Energy Source

Whenever it rains we always wait for the rainbow to come. But did you know that what we see as colors of rainbows are actually different frequencies or energy levels of the sunlight. A solar panel converts some portion of sun light into energy for our use. Well this is more like a good news like the Diamond Bar fire who c… Continue

Dr. Paul A. Curto A Little Bit Of History: In The Days Of Cholera

One of our discussions here, "How much time to prepare before economic collapse?" led to this string of posts that I would like to consolidate into a single blog on the issues raised. These were posted just before the 2008 election. I was asked to come and give some perspective on the art of the possible and make some suggestions on how to proceed in a time of cholera. Back in 1981, just after Reagan took office, there was a time when the prime interest rate had just peaked at 24%, oil… Continue

david@PickensPlan William Kamkwamba and his Windmill

I came across this video today and thought it was just an amazing story. An impoverished 20 year old boy living in Malawi, taught himself how to make a windmill. Recognizing that wind was in abundance where he lived, William was able to construct windmills using materials available and brought running water and electricity to his village for the first time. This is a truly remarkable and inspirational story. What are your thoughts? Continue

Dr. Paul A. Curto One Gift For The Holidays

When I look at the problems we face today, none can be more vexing that picking the right gifts for the holidays. There is no one more dear to me that the person who has stood by me through thick and thin, in sickness and health, through the good times and the bad, than my mate. Hypothetically, let’s suppose that I am given the choice of spending on her all my allotment of available funds on only one gift or a hundred. It doesn’t matter how much that amount might be, but let’s say for argument t… Continue

Dr. Paul A. Curto Sellout On The Great Lakes

Last week, some very disturbing events took place regarding 52 very large freighters (1000 foot-long class with 40,000 to 70,000 ton cargo holds) based in and on the Great Lakes. These ships, which carry millions of tons of heavy cargoes across the Lakes through the locks of St. Lawrence Seaway to the world, burn the dirtiest dregs of refinery scum in the world -- bunker C oil. This stuff is so sludgy it has to be heated to flow into the old diesels that burn it. 13 of the 52 "Lakers" as they ar… Continue
