The 1st Earth Day With an Ongoing China Syndrome-Fukushima

Fukushima is Heating the Pacific Ocean

The melted reactors of Fukushima have been leaking hot water into the ocean and satellites can see the added heat. Here is "photo" depicting this.

Another Earth Day, and We've STILL Got Climate Change, and We're STILL Without a viable, safe, and sustainable National Energy Plan

and how fitting that Japanese tsunami debris washes up on U.S. shores yesterday.  So symbolic.  Japan's outmoded/outdated fission-based nuclear reactors at Fukushima (Westinghouse boiling water nuclear reactor stuff) go tits up, contaminate (and continue to do so) the Earth's atmosphere and the Pacific Ocean with radioactive material, and these two balls from Japan show up on U.S. shores....like "the balls in our court" or something! What's our energy game plan now?  And don't tell me it's…

Doomsday clock moved closer to midnight

Citing ongoing threats from nuclear proliferation, climate change, and the need to find sustainable and safe sources of energy, scientists moved the "Doomsday Clock" one minute closer to midnight on Tuesday.

The clock was moved from six to five minutes to midnight.

The clock is…

Wind Power IS Now Cheaper Than Nuclear Power says EU Climate Chief

Wind Power:

USD$0.05/installed watt

Nuclear Power:

USD$1.50/installed watt

Generating energy from wind turbines at sea would be cheaper than building new atomic power plants, Europe's climate chief has said, in the latest challenge to the crisis-stricken nuclear industry.

Connie Hedegaard, the EU climate change commissioner, said: "Some people tend to believe that nuclear is very, very cheap, but offshore wind is cheaper than nuclear. People…

Why Hasn't the Japanese Govt. Taken Over FukUshima Plant Operations?

Tepco Names 36-Year Veteran as New President

Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s choice of a 36-year company veteran to resolve the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl and avert bankruptcy prompted calls for the government to take a more direct role in managing the utility.

Tepco, as the company is called, on May 20 picked Toshio Nishizawa, 60, to replace Masataka Shimizu, who resigned following a… Continue

Massey Coal Mine,BP Gulf Oil, and Japan Nuclear Disasters--The 3-Headed Hydra of Unsustainable Greed

Now, we're facing another  head of the fossil fuel/nuke hydra:  Japan's Nuclear Meltdown.   Is it all about greed for money or is there ANY sustainability and utility in what these demons of power do (coal, oil, nuclear)?   We've seen the price of life devalued to a new low...EVEN here in the States.  Massey Coal sold themselves to survive litigation and possibly criminal prosecution.  BP replaced its CEO and now, with respect to deep water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico,  only buys…

Senate Bill 50- Missouri Nuclear Agenda Just Say NO

Collection of Examples for Solar vs. Nuclear- Energy Production Debate and Proposed Bill

* Missourians, Don't let the TV Ads on Senate Bill 50 Fool You. Read the Information for yourself-I've supplied all the web links where I found the Info.

* Solar is not the Best Form of Renewable Energy- I don't consider Nuclear Energy a form of Renewable Energy since the Waste will be placed in the Ground- IE: It could pollute the Water our Bodies Must Have-We Consume Everyday

Insights for Serious Energy Army Soldiers

It is time we got back on track at the Pickens Plan. T. Boones vision was bring us together, but we seem to be all over the map.

I seem to recall some scriptural refernce to waging war that advises the consideration of cost associated with such endeavors. The following URL references current cost for projects that are currently under construction and due for completion.…

Will the Planet Last Until We Harness Fusion Nuclear Power ("laser inertial fusion energy")?

Laser fusion energy: commercial by 2030?

02 Aug 2010

National Ignition Facility director Ed Moses outlines some of the key photonic component requirements for commercial energy production based on laser fusion.

A prototype commercial laser fusion reactor could be up and running by 2020, with power stations based on the technique in place ten years later.

That’s according to Ed Moses, principal associate director at the National Ignition Facility (NIF).…

Report: Solar Energy Cheaper Than Nuclear Energy

The costs for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems have fallen steadily while construction costs for new nuclear power plants have been rising over the past decade, which now makes electricity generated from new solar installations cheaper than electricity from proposed new nuclear power plants, according to a new report published by a retired Duke University professor.

Moreover, the report continues, solar costs are projected to continue its decline over the coming decade while nuclear… Continue

Using expended and stored nuclear material along with thermocouples to produce current.

I've been doing some thought experiments and calculations on using the spent nuclear fuel we are storing in salt mines at temperatures around 60 degrees fahrenheit and incorporating a system using an optimized thermocouple that has one end in the coldest area of the salt mine and the other end near the hottest decaying area of the spent and decaying fuel. Using the right materials and scaling factors an electric current can be generated and stored in a capacitor bank coupled to a properly…

Denis Hayes: Earth Day and new nuclear reactors don’t mix

Nuclear power has never lived up to the promises of its backers. Their latest claim -- that nuclear energy represents an easy answer to global warming -- has as much validity as that old industry chestnut of producing energy “too cheap to meter.” Let’s not be duped again.

Four decades ago, when I served as national coordinator for the first Earth Day, millions of Americans mobilized on behalf of the environment. This year, we know that the centerpiece of a healthy environment is… Continue

No Nukes, No Offshore Oil Drilling, NoBama!

I'm disappointed that Boone has not called Obama out on his failure to mention nuclear power and off shore oil drilling in his speech to congress. We can't do this with wind and solar alone. We need to use every type of energy available to us. Is Boone under the Obama spell? I'm not sure I can continue to support the PickensPlan as it appears to have morphed in a wind and solar lobby arm.

Where Have All The Subsidies Gone?

I saw a legislator on CNN yesterday talking about how renewable energy gets a huge amount of money in government subsidies and how that ought to be taken away. That made me wonder just how much fossil and nuclear fuels recieve in subsidies and how much Exxon raked in while we were all paying 4$ a gallon for gasoline during their 14 billion dollar profit quarter last year.

I found a page from the Energy… Continue

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday leads the way on New Energy sources.

Forget the recession, California goes for the green

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday terminated talk that the recession will crimp California’s fight against global warming when he ordered every utility in the state to obtain a third of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020. And in a move that will shake up the land rush to build solar power plants in the… Continue
