One of our discussions here, "How much time to prepare before economic collapse?" led to this string of posts that I would like to consolidate into a single blog on the issues raised. These were posted just before the 2008 election.
I was asked to come and give some perspective on the art of the possible and make some suggestions on how to proceed in a time of cholera.
Back in 1981, just after Reagan took office, there was a time when the prime interest rate had just peaked at 24%, oil…

When I look at the problems we face today, none can be more vexing that picking the right gifts for the holidays. There is no one more dear to me that the person who has stood by me through thick and thin, in sickness and health, through the good times and the bad, than my mate. Hypothetically, let’s suppose that I am given the choice of spending on her all my allotment of available funds on only one gift or a hundred. It doesn’t matter how much that amount might be, but let’s say for argument t…

Change.gov offers a chance to email the president to express your vision of change. I encourage all of you to do the same. I took his energy policy, pasted it into the body of the message, and added my own thoughts (preceded with "---"). Putting a lot of emphasis on the words "Pickens Plan" near the end!
---Thank you for taking the time to entertain the ideas and actions of the American People you serve. As an employee of the natural gas measurement industry, I have a personal agenda to spread…

here is a car america so desparately needs:
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/19/la-2008-toyota-shows-off-camry-cng-hybrid
yet despite the obvious benefits:
1) reduce foreign oil imports
2) reduce emissions
3) powered by US produced natural gas
toyota will not be manufacturing this car nor making it available in the US?
why? probably because of the lack of nat gas refueling stations and the expense of the single-sourced home refueling appliance (the "Phill" by Fuelmaker).
my question is this:…

Job Creation, Energy Independence, Environmental Stewardship
The energy market has dominated headlines for as long as can be remembered. As we climb our way out of the current economic cycle, new leaders are created and new industries will lead the way back to a strong, robust economy. Those who look to the future of the energy market know that Renewable Energy is an industry that is boiling over with potential. A growing new Renewable Energy industry in Florida will create untold thousands of…

Where I Come From
For a great deal of my life, I dealt with laywers, judges and other cops. It was a decent job with some hidden benefits in regards to those small (but significant) satisfactions that you can't regularly get otherwise. One or two things became ingrained in me. First, character and honor can not be separated. They are like your lungs. You get a pair as a set and to be frank, they aren't a failsafe system. That is, should you loose one set, you really do miss it dispite ho…

What do you think about tonight's debate?
I would like for Barack and John to leave behind all the rhetoric they are using and talk straight up about wind, solar, natural gas, and other alternative energy.
Could they just talk in depth and detail about the energy policy they would lead as president? We have heard the highlights, I would like to hear more. How would we push for more wind, solar, natural gas, clean coal, etc. and where would you store the spent nuclear fuels? More, more, more, .…

I just received an e-mail, which all subscribers to the Push Pickens Plan surely have. It begins with one word; Army.
I replied as follows: "Please do not refer to me, or us as "Army". That implies a war. You are seeking to build a movement. If you want a war, you have come to the wrong person."
The word "Army" as overtones and connotations that creates friction among some people. While it is intended to imply strength and unity under a single command, it also implies slow progress, destructio…

Nancy Pelosi should look at this
Keith Olberman segment <= the second video in this post - and take the pledge for sure.
I hope Boone gets a Cabinet post in whatever administration gets in. Energy is the driving issue in our economy. If we get it right, everything falls right into place, including finance, peace and prosperity.
If you listen to Obama in that video segment which has to do with the "tire inflation" flapdoodle (for m…

Key policy recommendations for a Cleaner, Greener Energy Future include:
* Provide multiyear tax incentives for renewable-energy production and energy-efficiency projects.
* Set national mandates that would require utilities to get at least 20 percent of their electricity from wind, solar and geothermal energy by 2020.
* Add and updating the building code to require energy-efficiency measures in the construction of new buildings and the renovation of existing buildings, and setting a g…

You would think that on a site that is devoted to opening up a new era of alternative energy and energy independence by way of pushing and supporting the Pickens Plan....well, you would think that my first blog would be something about that. But no, I want to come in at a much lower level - down here in the bedrock. So, be it as it may be, this is my very first first blog ever.

Hopefully we can come to some concensus so that we can be in sync when it comes to putting pressure on WashingtonI welcome your feedback. Please keep the discussion as non-partisan as possible.

I am seeing all kinds of great ideas being tossed around. This is really great.
But, and this is a BIG BUT! I am really afraid that many are going off on tangents that will jeopardize the collective group.
We need to form a few leaders to coral the mass into focused directions, or you will have mass attrition levels and total chaos running rampant.
The major media companies would eat that up!!! Don't give them the pleasure!!!
I suggest that you get a tightly focused video…

Feed-In Tariffs
A Regulatory Tool
by lois Barb er
All across the country, whether
motivated by a concern for the environment,
energy security, job creation, the economy — or just a
desire to make a buck — Americans are looking
outside our borders to see what’s been fueling the
global growth in renewable energy. They are finding
that one type of legislation, in Europe and elsewhere
called a feed-in tariff (FIT), has proven to be the
world’s most effective renewable e…

T. Boone Pickens understands some of the struggles we're facing as a nation and he's addressing them with his plan. Recently, another big figure in the campaign for energy independence, Al Gore, proposed a plan that the U.S. produce 100% of it's energy within 10 years by utilizing solar, wind and other environmentally friendly sources of energy. The only major difference between the plans is that Al Gore's takes a strong stance against the further development of carbon-based fuels. With Al Gore…
