A MUST for the NG Bill

While we push for Natural Gas (NG) to replace fossil fuels (as a transition to passive renewable energy from sun, wind and tides, etc.) we must bear something important in mind. People use NG now -- lots of it -- to heat their homes, their water, and to cook with. Using NG for transportation fuel will inevitably raise the demand, and thereby the price. ANY bill we endorse must include provisions to protect residents from rising (or skyrocketing) prices on those home fuels. I've seen how much LP… Continue

Where Have All The Taxes Gone? (Short term problem with plug-in E-Cars)

I should have seen this one coming. Mea Culpa. My only excuse is that I was too caught up in the potentials of a clean, Green future to consider the immediate moment. Electric cars have a problem. It isn't battery life, or expense, or road safety, or even distance limitations. It's fuel tax. Federal and State governments tax gasoline. Some counties and cities may do so as well, either directly or by sales tax. The tax on electricity isn't anywhere near as high, and there's no taxing what you g… Continue

Letter to Boone Pickens

Boone, Preface: This email will take you two minutes to read. I considered editing it to about 40 seconds, but feel it important that you see how I come to the conclusion before I deliver a message I believe important to this movement you've helped birth. I've spend years of my life towards the same goal. Please indulge us with the couple minutes and read all of this. First, I'll thank you for the efforts you've put forth, and the liberty you've allowed in discussing alternative energy solutio… Continue

Creating Jobs in America --- Green or otherwise

I wrote this as an off-the-cuff response to someone's valid point that jobs are what we need to spur our economy, rather than tax breaks. That's true, of course. Tax breaks don't do us OR the government any good when there's no income to receive or tax. But the article didn't say how we'd create those jobs, so I've answered to that question: STOP SENDING THE WORK OVERSEAS! STOP BUYING STUFF FROM OVERSEAS! The only ones making money in that deal are the ships and their diesel suppliers. It shav… Continue

Obama vs. McCain

I'll be the first to admit that I'm no big fan of Barak Obama. Rather, I wish there were two OTHER candidates for us to choose from in a few weeks. I don't like that both of them think you can war for peace. I don't like that both want to support Georgia even though it seems that Georgia initiated hostilities against two small sovereign nations that sit on the border between Georgia and Russia. I don't like that neither of them has mentioned, let alone promised, dismantling the Patriot Act or ev… Continue

Out of the Woodwork

While the PickensPlan site has enabled several good minds to come together, facilitated some synergy, it also seems to flush the nutcases and snake-oil sellers out of the woodwork. In just one example, there's a guy on here looking for funding with his "Plasma" videos. Yep. Put a piece of aluminum in a microwave oven and you'll get sparks - but that's WASTING energy - lots of it. Oh, you spent $850 on a $100 piece of lab equipment and put some cigarette smoke in there and the "plasma" knocked d… Continue

For Perspective

On August 22, 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt became the first United States chief executive to take a public automobile ride. A mere 106 years ago, cars were a novelty. We don't NEED the combustion engine. It was a means of getting us to this point, not a permanent handicap. Where we go from this point is up to us. I encourage you to choose a combustion/destruction-free world. Continue

Optimists, Idealists, Realists and Naysayers

"Optimists refuse to acknowledge reality. Idealists remind us that it isn’t fixed." - Susan Neiman Realists tether our lofty dreams, so that they don't blow away before we can work together to figure out to make them into reality. Naysayers contribute nothing. They just get in the way. Someone recently claimed that oil was here to stay, that we couldn't be rid of it entirely, that it's a “fact of life and living.” So what is it that makes oil so essential? Plastics? Overrated. I… Continue
