renewable power combined. Texas is the nation's wind leader, with…

Editorial: Energy Industry Can Find Second Wind

For those of you in South Dakota...

From ArgusLeader.com:

No one ever said that building up South Dakota's wind energy industry was going to be easy.

As a matter of fact, recent news that Otter Tail Power Co. no longer will be a partner in building the proposed Big Stone II coal plant in Big Stone City is somewhat of a blow to that effort.

The Big Stone II project includes plans to build a super-highway transmission line that could carry 800 to 1,000… Continue

Break the curse of oil addiction

EDITORIAL BOARD

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

When T. Boone Pickens framed U.S. energy dependence on foreign oil as a national security issue, people couldn't agree fast enough. He launched an aggressive advertising campaign pushing wind and solar power as an alternative to imported oil in 2008.

With gasoline prices hovering at $4 a gallon and driving up the cost of anything that had to be… Continue

Idea of the Day: Passage of the NAT GAS Act

Idea of the Day: Passage of the NAT GAS Act – Center for American Progress – 9/2/09

The NAT GAS Act, S. 1408, would boost investments in heavy-duty vehicles powered by natural gas. This fuel has the potential to replace 100 percent of the petroleum used in heavy-duty vehicles. Bipartisan support for a national energy plan

Some people are of the opinion that I jump-started my plan to end our country's addiction to foreign oil on a whim. I may have launched the Pickens Plan in July 2008, but the truth is our lack of a national energy plan has been worrying me for most of my professional career. Beginning in the 1970s, I noticed America's oil import numbers were trending in the wrong direction. Forty years ago, when Richard Nixon… Continue

CLEAN ENERGY SUMMIT 2.0

Harry Reid's Clean Energy Summit – Huffington Post – 8/10/09

By T. Boone Pickens

I get a lot of invitations to events and activities, and the truth is I have to decline a good number of them. But last year when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid asked me to attend the National Clean Energy Summit at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, I didn't have to think twice. I said "Yes" in a heartbeat.

Harry Reid has never shunned hard work. He may be Majority Leader of… Continue
