If anyone is going to sink the PickensPlan before it gets done, its going to be the political Yahoos that are trying to use this site as a means to advance their own agenda. Whether it be from the left or the right, this is not the forum to espouse your political ideology. What we are interested in doing here is getting a plan in motion to reduce the reliance of the United States on foreign oil! That's it, simply put! I don't care who gets that objective accomplished, whether he be Democrat or R…

I want to take this one step further than Mr. Pickens. Not only do we not want to buy foreign oi, but lets put the brakes on the other foreign products that are killing American business. Specifically I am talking about buying foreign automobiles. Don't get me wrong, I've owned Toyotas, Datsuns, Yamahas and several other foreign cars and motorcycles. However that was then and this is now. We are in the financial fight of our lifetime. The economy has cratered and the stock market is in the tank.…

When I first joined the Pickens Army I didn't agree fully with Mr. Pickens that the best temporary solution for our automobile fuel problems would be the use of CNG or compressed natural gas. I originally believed that we could best use Ethanol for the short run until other reusable fuels became available. I thought that because ethanol was a liquid and wouldn't require changing the fuel pumps at gas stations and that all the infrastructure was already in place to use it. Also the fact that conv…

Mr. Pickens recently presented his Plan to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO. He has also spoken directly to both presidential hopefuls, Barack Obama and John McCain. Both parties are interested in what he has to say. The point here is that all of us, both Conservatives and Liberals have a vested interest in going forward with this plan. We must stop the redistribution of wealth from the United States to the Middle East. In order to do that, we must work together. We need to avoid…

Its amazing what you can learn if you put your mind to it. When I first joined the Picken's Army I only half-heartedly supported the use of ethanol as an automotive fuel. First because I didn't think it a good idea to use food sources like corn, to make ethanol. I quickly learned that most of the ethanol today comes from "feed corn". Still corn is corn and it wasn't until I read a comment from another Pickens member about the work in progress to use "Switch Grass" as an Ethanol source that I beg…

Energy Rhetoric vs. Reality
"Rhetoric: We can't drill our way out of this problem because the United States only has three percent of the world’s oil reserves.
Reality: America has vast resources of oil and natural gas – enough oil to power more than 60 million cars for the next six decades and enough natural gas to heat 60 million homes for 160 years, according to government estimates. We may have considerably more resources, since the government conducted their last true inventory in the ear…

There is a very interesting National Review article from last September, written by R. James Woolsey and Anne Korin. It is called Turning Oil into Salt. You may find this article as interesting as I did. What do you think?

Every time I go and get gas for the car I notice the sticker on the pump that says, "This Fuel Contains 10% Ethanol." I don't know about you, but I don't really think that's a good idea. I did originally, but not anymore. Well at least so long as its being made from food stuffs like corn. If we can get ethanol from something besides corn, maybe I could support that. For one thing the price of corn has shot up and that not only effects what we eat, but also animal feed. What do you think? Should…

Its about time we get our congressmen and senators to stop bickering among themselves, i.e., Democrat and Republican. For starters, congress should come back in session and start addressing the nations energy problems. Nothings going to get fixed with them calling a recess and going home.
I'd like to see some concrete action taken to remove the restrictions on offshore drilling. Then they might consider how they can provide assistance to American Citizens who wish to do the conversion to dual g…

Dear Mr. Welsh:
Like you, I am concerned about how skyrocketing gas prices are affecting Florida's economy and our families. I want to take a moment to share my thoughts about how we can best address the current energy crisis.
I support drilling as an interim strategy to help lower gas prices and have voted twice to get the oil companies to drill here in the U.S. However, I am concerned that drilling off Florida's beaches could imperil our state's $65-billion dollar tourism ind…

Finally I think maybe this country can move forward on an energy policy if both Democrats and Republican supporters can get behind Mr. Picken's Plan. As long as we don't try to go in all different directions, I think we will be able to make progress. I must admit I didn't think much of his natural gas plan for cars but the more I read about it the more sense it makes. After all its a transitional state until we can come up with the most energy efficient system to power our cars. Lets see what we…
