I'd like to address the thoughts one paragraph at a time in order.
1)... lose your job, and you lose your health insurance.
1A) Decouple health insurance from employee benefits.
2)... Cancer patients have seen their insurance companies deny them care at the moment they need it most. ...
2A) Allow insurers to offer 'a la carte' policies across state lines.
3) ... out-of-pocket health expenses ... with insurance pay about $1,100 extra each year ...
3A) Be honest under the government plan it wil…

Utility Sector “Cash-for-Clunkers” Program?
POWERnews
Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens and media magnate Ted Turner have teamed up in calling for a utility sector “cash-for-clunkers” program, which they say could save money and reduce emissions right away.
In a Wall Street Journal editorial this Sunday, the duo proposed that such a program could make a difference if the “oldest, least efficient, and most pol…

Dear Congressman Himes,
I urge you to oppose HR-2454 the Cap & Trade bill. It will impose another punitive tax on the American economy.
Should the bill pass I urge you to support the clauses that will help my company Solar & Thermal Systems Inc. to be on the cutting edge of renewable Energy Credits.
It is my intention that the legislation fail even thought my own self interest might be better served by its adoption.
Please do the right thing.
Respectfully,
Paul Passarelli, Presiden…

This and other similar claims are what we keep hearing from the "priesthood" of science & technology. These are followed by the nods and acknowledgments of the populations that adore the proclamations. When I read the description of the claim, a nagging image of another Nirvana and a self inflicted shotgun blast to the head occurred to me. Pardon the the reference to a sad little boy, malcontent grunge rocker, but it seemed like a good way to introduce a sober analysis if another fanciful cl…

Dear Paul:
Thank you for your e-mail of July 28 expressing support for T. Boone Pickens' plan to make us more energy independent and for the Fair Tax. I appreciate your taking the time to contact my office.
I signed the Pickens Pledge promising to work on enacting an energy plan within the first 100 days of the 111th Congress that reduces our foreign energy use by at least 30 percent in the next 10…

In an earlier post I discussed the relationship of time space and mass, and how the decay of mass could in fact explain the expansion of the universe and the acceleration of time.
Assume an early universe containing mass Mu and occupying zero space Vo, and existing in a timeless void at To. A quantum fluctuation causes the center of mass to quiver, expressing energy. According to Einstein, a particle moving has a different mass than a particle at rest. And contradictory to Newton, states that t…

I was flipping by the Science Channel, and I noticed a fellow chatting about the WMAP images, and discussing the horizon problem. If looked like he had some FFT's of the WMAP data and he was talking about what he jokingly called the "axis of evil". It seemed to imply the whole of the universe possessed a non-random pattern, best explained by angular momentum (wp). Axis of evil, indeed!
If the universe does have wp, then the next question has to be: Is the axis stable, or is it precessing? Furth…

Ten months age I said some nasty things about First Solar (FSLR). Actually about the folks that were duped into investing in First Solar. I was surprised that so many could be fooled by the promise of CdTe technology. Sure it sounds wonderful, but the reality is that it's a double edge sword with no handle!
This week another thin film company announced $600MM of stealth investment and has produced a 110MW capacity per year plant. They're also claiming $1B in booked orders... we'll get back to t…

David,
I'll meet you the other half of the way... It's all in the website, it's there for the reading, but here you go:
But before that I gotta add a little commentary, please try to understand that I don't care for the way the rest of the industry *brags* and makes empty claims just because the marketing department says: "We can get them to swallow this!"
First, all ratings depend on the availability of sunlight at the site. In order to get around this huge coefficient of variability, we ref…

This is off topic, but it's fun!
The issue of dark matter & dark energy as they relate to the expansion of the universe and the finite speed of light have always troubled me. If a paradox appears in nature, check your premises. Well we can describe 2 objects that are receding from each other at a speed that is greater than the speed of light if we allow that the objects are incapable of signaling or otherwise affecting each other. But that is the paradox, each object can signal an arbitrary…

Hello friends and soon to be neighbors.
Solar & Thermal has been working with the our partners in South Carolina, and things are looking very good for a move to the Palmetto State. For those of you that aren't familiar with Innovista, it's a partnership between industry, with the university of SC in Columbia. But that's only the tip of the iceberg. We're going to establish principal manufacturing in Columbia or a nearby county.
To the point:
Solar & Thermal will be seeking people to f…

Focus vs Scatering
Posted by James W. Patterson, Ph.D. on July 15, 2008 at 1:23pm in Everything Else
The natural tendency of the MIND is to avoid intensity by scattering ones thoughts and efforts. This is especially applicable to those whose efforts at environmentalism have consumed them for a long time. A certain habit of frustration may have become a natural expectation of ones MIND over such a period of ti…
