THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE ANSWER...DO WE HAVE THE WILL?

There is an immediate solution to our energy problems that we can implement in the interim while we develop alternative energy. We will be dependent on fossil fuels to some degree for some time because our transportation and infrastructure in this country is designed around fossil fuels and has to function for the immediate future. OIL IS ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG

In the early 60’s we studied a policy called “beggar thy neighbor” as part of our Economics class. Beggar thy neighbor is a policy where a foreign country subsidizes their products to make them cheaper for us to purchase until our domestic manufacturers or suppliers are forced to downsize or go out of business. Back to the Future

I don’t know how many of you who are reading this was affected by the 70’s oil embargo and the long gas lines but we responded and recovered. A lot of the recovery was due to CONSERVATION. We need to take a step backward in time. In the 70’s: We reduced the speed limit to 55 mph. I am not in favor the government legislating a 55 mph speed limit but we can voluntary reduce our speeds and drive more conservative to save fuel.
