I think I just scared one of my local friends, one I didn't even know had totally opposite alternative energy views. And her family's in the oil business, which I didn't know, until now. I went into a long rant about the need for alternative energy, not wanting a job with a crappy commute, not with the cost of gas approaching $5.00/gallon.

She asked, "Which do you want more, a decent job or a decent commute?" See, I'm at a crossroads as I have some clients, but not quite enough to be a freelancer and that's the crux of it. In the old days I was mostly tecommuting and it was great, gas was cheap, or cheaper. A commute and gas didn't matter that much. Being out on the open road, driving was fun, part of the California experience. Now it's not fun. It's cost prohibitive. I look for local things to do for fun and don't drive much, not like the old days.

It's why I'm into the CNG car, but that's not a total answer. The MPG needs to increase on the Honda Civic. Plus, there needs to be more CNG stations. At least in San Diego County there are about ten stations.

Oh that's nuts. Like what's good for the environment has to be political. I talked to someone about my concerns about foreign policy coupled with the economic worries I wasn't even talking about candidates. The person told me not to think about what scares me, just think about happy thoughts. I think that was some code work - for don't be an intellectual. I like learning. Since when did learning get politicized. It's getting weird out there.
