PickensPlan

Welcome to the official Ohio Pickens Plan blog! My name is Mikel Derby and I'm the regional coordinator for the New Energy Army in the state of Ohio. Check back here often for the latest news and campaign updates and I'll look for things from you to include as well.

If you haven't already, sign up here and send a letter to your congressional member urging them to sign the Pickens Pledge.

Thanks! Mikel

Joan/Rick - Thanks for the thoughts. This truly is a grass roots movement and we all need to do our part. If you see articles on the Plan from OH papers and or spots by OH TV stations please pass along the links. The more people see and read the progress we're making the more people will jump on board! Ask people to join the Plan and sign the pledge.

I'm not sure I am one hundred percent about pushing for the government to cause this change. I am a firm believer that these things need to change, but I think it needs to change by people getting together and funding wind based generators and natural gas service stations, not by us all complaining and asking congress to do our jobs as consumers for us. I think we really need to consider this before we simply end up being another voice asking the government to take care of a problem that we need to take care of as a people. If we always allow the government to take care of our problems we will forget how to take care of ourselves. This is why this has become such a problem already. The few men and women that lead us are subject to be slow to change things, because change is feared by the majority, and they are elected by the same majority. Even if we did get them to move forward on this plan and get it going in the right direction, a movement started at the top will crumble as soon as it is established. People will take one small victory and say, "yay problem averted" and return to the gas station, waiting for something to happen.
So I say, forget lobbying the government. What really needs to be moved is the consumer and the private sector investors. This type of movement established the personal computer, the cell phone, and the car. This is the true American movement. As investors gain interest, corporations will invest vast money into improving the equipment. This will generate mass interest, mass capital and create a concrete foothold for these plans to grow. Until one day when a wind powered generator the size of a ten dollar box fan sits on the roof of every house and litters the tar landscapes of sky scraper buildings. At this point clean, renewable fuel will take over, through a social and economic revolution, not through goverment action. Through this type of action, we make this a peoples movement, an new American Revolution. Now is the time for the American public to pledge itself to change the country not through hopes, dreams, and politics, but through hardwork, determination, and the iron will on which this nation was established.
