where is america?

honestly we tend[as citizens] to look at america from the outside in. so i guess that we are looking at ourselves. well it's time to to take a good long look. let down our defenses and just look.
we have become a society that if we don't already have enough that someone should give us more. america has always been a giving country to help the world as a whole. but our government wasn't set up to support us all. if it were it would be socialism. and that is a proven path for failure. but then again so is a democracy. most only sucsessfull for 200-250 years. so where are we?
well i believe we are between apathy and dependence. greed has taken over in our government and industries. it has ruined our economy and the basic way we live. but can we fix it? well maybe.
i listened to my congressman speak at my son's middle school. i was very disappointed. he actually stood there and blamed wall street for our crisis. his actual words were government hates wall street we all hate wall street. let me let you in on a little secret. HATE is the root of all evil. the word isn't allowed to be used in my house.
and what really bothers me when you begin hating things within your own system[a system that has built this world not only america] you have immense internal problems. and that to me is what is running our country.
in a town hall meeting yesterday one of the questions was getting to sound like the lady was going to call obama a terrorist and he litteraly said no and took the microphone away and said no we are not going to go there. thank you john. the hate has to stop somewhere.
the problem is the government has put themselves above the common person. well w/ all the crap they put out i'm surely not going to position myself beneath them.
in the congessional hearing on aig henry waxman made an idiot of himself for his questioing tactics. how much did you make last year? did you give it back? well let me tell you they[politicians] aren't giving their pay back and they are ruining more lives than aig. if you take away the chance to fail you take away the chance to sucseed. are they going to give up their private planes? pay for life? health care for life? these are things that they voted on to benifit themselves. the start of the downfall of democracy.GREED it has also been the downfall of our education system. if schools try to save money it won't be replaced next year. that's like giving someone a black american express card. pretty much like the one our politians have.
so i guess what we have to decide whether we want them to change things or if we should change things. because there is a big difference. believe me america our change will be better than theirs. speak out america if we don't we just might lose that chance. or should i say right?

Comment by dave murray on October 19, 2008 at 8:17am: lainey the sad part about this is it's true. evrything i here from my kids when they come home from school is how bad america is. it takes me most of the evening to change their mind. we don't teach who we are and what has gotten us here. just that we are bad and don't take care of everyone. they don't go back and teach them what it took to get to this screwed up situation we are in and that that very fact has a lot to do w/ it. my son got in a little trouble towards the end of the year last year and he had to make a deal. they told him if he did this he would get this in return. well he held up his end of the deal and when it came time to start school this year they didn't live up to their's. they actually made him sign [me too] a contract stating it was a priviledge for him to walk the halls of the school. and on top of that they created a special set of rules much more stringent than normal. well w/ him sitting there along w/ my ex wife i didn't feel it was the right time to go to war. i never felt so bad in my life as i did on the way home when he looked at me w/ those puppy dog brown eyes and said dad why didn't you stick up for me. i tried to explain to him that there is an art to confrontation and assured him it would be taken care of tomorrow. what it was i didn't want him to be involve to me educating these educators that they were nuts. they also set the up the meeting at 4 pm the day before school started. which led me to believe they didn't think i would go along w/ the program. when the dems. put the energy bill on the floor after giving it to them at 9:45 the night before and they had to vote on it the next day. he said man dad that's the same thing they did to me at school. well needless to say the matter was straightened out and i made sure they felt about 2 inches tall before i left. i fluttered their contract in the air and told them i can almost guarantee too this has written in the last minute out of not knowing a better way to go about it and by giving no time for rebuttal. the jerk said you are right. then i really lost it. my brother a teacher in the same school system asked me what i said. i told him i didn't say anything but i sure did yell a lot. he said you yelled at them. i laughed and said you have known me for 50 years what did you think i would do.well you do have a point was his reply. i asked them now that this has happened how many kids are you doing this to. the damage had already been done to david and i'll take care of thatbt if i find out you are doing the same thing to other kids i'll be at every school board meeting thereout. and i don't think they are doing it anymore. i also had to reinform them that it wasn't my job to educate him it was their's and that they worked for me. not some jerk that held a higher position in the school. needless to say as i walked out they apologized and assured me it wouldn't happen to any other kids. they really don't want me school board meetings. but then maybe i should go. but the end fact is david is doing just fine and has all a's and b's on his report card. and is working in some areas at 10th grade level in the eighth.so they had to have a victory meeting. to this day i think it was more for them than david because the only thing i saw from it was they told him he still had a chance to fail. and at the same time put him on a pedestal. my thought about the pedestal is once you are there there is only one way you can go. down.
