I am closing this week on a green home of sustainable design here in Apple Springs subdivision near Leander, Texas, just outside Austin, Texas. The home was designed by Austin Architect Peter Pfeiffer and is made of ICF's, Insulated Concrete Forms. These ICF's are made of 85% recycled polystyrene and concrete. The home was site specific, meaning it was designed for the best orientation on the acreage site it was built- south facing, at the best angle to capture the prevailing breezes, and so on. This home was featured on HGTV as a special Earth Week presentation. It features a 30,000 gallon plus rainwater collection system. There is no well or city water- only rainwater.
