When I first started on my venture, my focus was to make a 'generic windmill'. What I mean by that is a ridiculously simple to manufacture, yet bulletproof strong design. There are enormous advantages to Phase 1 & Phase 2 designs such as ground level servicing. When, not if a generator fails(they all will) with these machines, it takes an hour to swap the generator and it's up again. If anyone has ever seen a traditional windmills' generator get swapped out (or main bearings), it is an enormous task parallel to building it.

A generic windmill is one that can be manufactured by an enormous number of facilities in many locations across the country quickly and in short order. This makes them inexpensive and a mass produced windmill MUST be introduced if the scenario in my blog "How it works, why it works and a challenge". $1500/kw of rated windmill WILL NOT get the grand task that Mr. Pickens has launched accomplished.

A 1.5Mw windmill costs now about $2M to $2.25M to permit, transport, erect and get online. Much of this cost is in the permitting, yet still...it doesn't change the fact of how much it costs. This boils down to about $1500 per kw of maximum output ($2,250,000 divided by 1500kw or 1.5Mw)

A 1.5Mw machine at $2M will take ten years to pay for itself...without interest. A 1.5Mw machine will yield about 300,000kwh's a month. At 5 cents per kilowatt hour (kwh), and this is being generous because purchase from the utility can be as little as 2 cents per kwh, this is $15,000 per month of income. Divide $2,000,000 by $15,000 and you get 133 months, divided by 12 is over eleven years.

If it breaks down, maintenance, etc. This is why America has not embraced wind power. It doesn't make good business sense. WHAT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY IF THE CHANGES WE ALL SEEK ARE GOING TO BE REALIZED IS...A GENERIC WINDMILL!!!!!!

A mass produced, cheap ass windmill. And a board of directors unlike GE that is not going to squeeze every last ounce of profit from it. If there is going to be a sound technology, one that doesn't take ENORMOUS GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES, a technology that flourishes because it's power per dollar invested is reasonable, it is going to HAVE to come from a NEW technology. PERIOD!!!

Imagine a windmill that has a $400/kw index...Imagine a $250/kw index... possibly less. Now take a new look at the photos and try to absorb it. Make it way, far bigger than you perceive it... then you will not need to imagine anymore.
