The plan overview and where you fit in

It seems to me that T. Boone doesn't want to supply the major cities primarily. He is looking to CNG to power cars to get us off oil. Well, throughout the Midwest, gas pipes run to most homes. By making electric cheap and plentiful in that area, they could convert to electric appliances and start using CNG for their cars. As supply of electric is increased, the existing power plants will be forced to drop rates, making it cheaper and spurring people to get off gas in the rest of the country, allowing more for cars. Kinda snowball effect. I would love to have off-shore wind near my home IF they didn't want me to pay so much MORE for it. T. Boone wants the wind power to cost LESS so people WANT to use electric instead of gas. With the rates they want to charge, other alternative energy sources would be better in my neck of the woods. But, as I am trying to point out in most discussions, everyone here has slightly different circumstances. It may work and be cheap some. I hope so. But even if it works for your area, you should search for what you can do to best in your area to help get us off foreign oil. For some, buying a hybrid is the right thing right now. For others, saving for a CNG car or conversion is the best thing to do. Yet others might need to get solar panels on their homes. Still others can't afford to do any of these, and can't afford not to do something. They can support the plan, write letters send emails, and look into local groups that they can volunteer to help.

One more thing. I am currently looking for a scooter that can go 50 miles per hour. Does anyone know if any company is making these powered by CNG? Electric doesn't go far enough on a charge as I have a 25 mile roundtrip to work (if I go direct and come right home). I refuse to buy one that uses gas unless I have no other choice.

I am a Texan transplanted from Columbus, Ohio, so I have experienced nat gas and now electric. I much prefer nat gas. I would convert in a heartbeat. Also, I now live in an area where the wind could power everyone's house in my county and all of the adjoining ones. There is definitely a need for an updated grid to spread nature's own power source.
The one area that I have not seen addressed is heating oil. Almost the entire area of New England heats their homes with heating oil at a very high cost. If we could get these people to convert to nat gas this would save a whole lot of oil!
We don't need more government rules, regulations, and blockades. We need the government to run contests with monetary prizes as incentives for the development of every single type of energy possible.

Wind energy will not make electricity cheaper, it will be much more expensive. Remember, Pickens says you have to include the clean-up cost of coal to make wind competitive. Having said this, I still support the plan.

Speaking of farmers... While I have all of the respect in the world for their profession. I think the politicians are playing a game with Ethanol. A bio based product can't become the mid or short term solution. In the mid term crops fail demands shift and food is always more impt that fuel. In the long term. this is just another way to prolong our dependence on oil. It drives the price down slightly so people will by bigger cars.

Farmers worldwide need to learn to be energy independent. They have the resources at hand to do this in a variety of ways. By achieving even this we will make the food supply secure and keep the costs down.
