Do you think there is any chance of setting up some Coops? Maybe 4-6 houses on one block in a cluster join forces and finances to install wind or solar panels and hook everyone up to the same source. It would be cheaper for everyone, and it seems there has to be a way for everyone in the group to be hooked into their meter so all get "credit" when the meter runs backwards. Even if it only took care of one third or one fourth of an individual's power bill that is better than nothing until technology comes along so everyone can have cheap installation and equipment. In our case, my husband and I don't feel it is worth an investment of 30000 to install renewable power at our age, we would not live long enough to realize any profit, and we would have to mortgage our home to do so. At present we don't have a mortgage, so we just struggle along being as frugal as we can with our use of power. We use power strips that we can turn off, unplug unused appliances, use efficient bulbs, and generally try to use less power. Seems like no matter how much you cut back though, the utilities find a way to say you were over their baseline and charge an even higher rate. Oh well. Everyone hang in and do the best with what you have. You young folks out there are in a great position to install alternative power, because you will live long enough to see it pay for itself.
