A Green New Years Resolution
1. We shall install LED and compact fluorescent lighting to generate Negawatts; while phasing out incandescent bulbs at 100 watts;
2. We'll switch our heavy duty trucks from diesel to Biogas, and CNG, providing energy independence, cleaner air, and less CO2;
3. We can stop development of new pulverized coal fired generation;
And require higher solar thermal, PV, and wind penetration;
4. We'll phase out landfill disposal of Municipal Solid Waste, and instead promote air-free thermal gasification of trash, biomass, and E-Waste;
5. We can insulate offices, schools, gov't buildings, and our homes;
While promoting telecommuting, mobile computing, and video conferencing over smartphones;
6. We can provide incentives for electrification of cars, SUVs and Light Trucks;
And fund development of next generation Lithium Ion batteries, and SuperCaps with big bucks;
7. We can build new electrical transmission lines from the Mid-west to the East and West Coasts;
And eat organically grown vegetables, and whole wheat toast;
8. We will develop carbon capture and storage; and stop the destruction of tropical rain forests;
9. All can begin in 2009, with the 44th president taking the oath of office, the time for sustainability and intergenerational equity has arrived.
