An Empowered Organization to Fight America's Greatest Challenge - Complacency

July 16, 2008. I am reminded by a quote from Franklin Covey, "An empowered organization is one in which individuals have the knowledge, skill, desire, and opportunity to personally succeed in a way that leads to collective organizational success." To that end, I am so grateful for the many people who are helping others to join this site, who then assist others in navigating the site and advising them on how each person can personally contribute, and who are taking action now to build the foundations necessary for success tomorrow. I appreciate the members of the Communications Support group, in particular, but also those who have joined the many other groups and discussions, and who are excited and sharing of their ideas and their time, skills, wisdom, and dreams.

Of course, much work lies ahead. The PickensPlan has very major goals in mind, which will not be easy to accomplish. But I am confident that "Boone's Army" can accomplish these goals. Of course, more organization will be required. In the early days this group might be like making sausage - not something you really want to watch, but in the end it will come out great and, when cooked, taste fantastic.

To facilitate the organization coming together will take further communication support, educational resources, downloadable and distributable flyers and brochures, promotional ideas and items, and much more. There are many specific projects that can be tackled. I encourage everyone to remain excited, but not to work so feverishly that you "burn out" quickly. Your involvment will be needed for many months to come. And, most importantly, ignore some of the negativeness that sometimes infects social networking sites, and instead concentrate on doing one positive thing at a time - that which you believe will empower others to succeed in their efforts and lead to long-term success for us all.

I joined the PickensPlan for a simple reason. As a student of economics and the capital markets, the major long-term threats to this country include unsustainable trade deficits, huge federal debt, and poor personal savings habits. The PickensPlan goes a long way to tackling, in particular, the huge trade deficits. No society can thrive if it continues to indefinitely export its wealth abroad in large amounts.

Just as important is the simple truth that, while I believe America's future is bright, our nation and our people cannot prosper if we are complacent in not confronting and tackling the challenges which lie before us. Woody Allen once said, "Eighty percent of success is showing up." To those tens of thousands of members who have joined this site, and who have found or are searching for ways to contribute to the PickensPlan or to its goals for a better America, thank you for "showing up." Thank you for joining T. Boone Pickens in combatting what is truly America's greatest challenge - complacency. - Ron
