I'm sure I am not alone in noticing the divisiveness that has gripped the country in recent years. I am young, not even thirty, and haven't the perspective of many years as others do, but it seems that our nation is becoming more divided. Rich and poor, black and white, conservative and liberal, environmentalist and otherwise. Doubtless, this divisiveness is a significant reason the legislature has been gridlocked and unable to provide needed solutions to the fuel crisis. There is too much of bitterness, too much of self-serving, too little of responsibility and sacrifice. What we need is humility, love, and respect. What we have is pride, bitterness, and verbal barbs.

It would seem that the individual is powerless to change such tides in society. I am an optimist, and refuse to give in to discouragement. There is a power of which I am a personal witness. It is not born of governments or corporations, special interests or lobby groups. It is the simple power of prayer.

I may face flack for the suggestion I am about to make, but I feel compelled to do it. We need to pray. The God of Heaven is not unaware of our plight. He is ever willing to help us, as He has in the past, if we will confess our dependence on Him in all things. At the constitutional convention, Benjamin Franklin said, "If a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?" With His help, our nation has risen out of trial and distress during worse times than this, but do we believe His power can help? Do we have enough faith even to ask? I would add to Dr. Franklin's words. Is it probable that a nation so raised could continue to thrive without His aid? Where much is given, much is expected. Are we living up to the expectations of the God who gave us life? Our country needs our faith and our prayers, so I challenge all of you, my friends, in addition to the letters and phone calls, tonight and every night, let us all say a heartfelt prayer for our country. Let the heavens know that America has not forgotten the power that brought us into being.

Censored. . . probably a poor choice of words. I approve every post that is respectful. I haven't had to delete one yet.

God Bless you for your stand on principle. You are right about the divisiveness and I too feel betrayed and a little bitter, since we warned the leaders that this was coming and we offered some good solutions, still they talk about Nuclear energy, when the world hasn't really gotten that much out of it but heartache and difficulty getting rid of the waste products. So many people die each year from accidents and issues we never hear about, just so some leader can gain votes and money. I believe the solutions are usually simple and prayer is definitely the major player among the tools we have to defeat oil dependence. I would stand with you anywhere and I believe you are right on about the need for discussion. Sincerely, Greg Smith

Yeah, I know it stinks to have to censor, but you ought to check out my other blog post. I had a real zinger from a guy that detracted from my message. I do try to approve all the posts. I haven't had to delete one yet. Thanks for reading and keep the faith!

Bridgette thanks for reminding me about praying for our energy problems. Although I pray and give thanks for my children, wife and all the things that God has given and taken from me, I have not prayed for mother earth until now.

I've never read "Lincoln on Leadership." Sounds like a good one. I know shortly after the Revolutionary War, the country had problems with everything. Inflation was sky high, the soldiers were taking arms against the government because they weren't getting paid, and foreign nations were taking huge advantage of us in trade. Spain and Britian were looking at us like raw meat waiting for us to fall so they could gobble us up. Compared to that time, we have very few problems indeed.

PS- I read "Lincoln on Leadership" and compared to what our country faced during the civil war, they'd beg to have our "problems"... theres no problems only solutions. I think I heard that in a song sung by some former hippie guy, huh?
Peace,Kurt

Hey Bridgette, HOW DARE YOU, naw just playing... you are right, while this might be bi-partisan or better yet non-partisan movement, doesnt mean it has to be a godless one.
Say , yeah I'll thrown my hat in the ring for this one. I'll be praying hard and working hard.

Good call, Peace and power to the sheeples. Kurt
