At the very least, this movement has raised the public awareness about where we are in our world energy situation. We are at a crossroads. We must be aware of where we are at or we shall wind up with nothing done and no where to go. Eventually it Will be too late. I am thrilled to be a part of this movement and want to do everything my wife and I can to ensure that progress is made.
We cannot ignore the situation any longer. We must keep the forward momentum. This cannot be a "Oh, I will join and someone else will do the work" movement. We are in charge of our future. I want to see everyone take advantage of wind power on their own. We cannot just rely on one man or one group, as was pointed out in a comment on our last blog. We are all responsible for what we do and where we go with our future and I want it to be forward. As far as I can tell, where we live is outside of Mr. Pickens area of farms. Therefore, my wife and I will continue to push the plan, and start our own small wind farm on our land. We are right by Huge transmission lines and it would be a great benefit to us to be able to invest what little we have in order to keep our money out of the electric company pockets and be able to build a better future for our next generations. The Byron Exelon Nuclear facility has a limited lifespan and they have a plan to place a string of towers from the nuke to Chana IL. We have seen the protest signs appear and seen them go away. Ogle County will make this happen and I agree that it would be a tragedy to see the giant lines that are already there be useless or worse be torn down.
I love the simplicity of the Mariah Power towers. They are small enough for county restrictions to be avoided and all the poo-pooing of "NO WIND FARMS in My Back Yard". I have never understood why people stand in the way of progress. It is going to happen, no matter how hard people try, it will only encourage others to try harder. Those of us who are stubborn will continue to keep trying. Tina read her son a Disney Goofy story every night for years, the motto of the book was "Slow but steady, steady but slow. That's the way we always go".
Just our thoughts for the day.
Brad and Tina
