A Bridge to Somewhere

The strategy of the Pickens Plan is to build a bridge to the future that will buy the United States time until new technologies bring new energy sources online.

Ironically, some cynics will clamor that the renewable technologies won’t be able to provide the solution for USA Energy Independence.

There is a very good likelihood that the future answers to our current energy challenges are things most of us or even all of us have not considered or actually don’t currently exist.

This of course wouldn’t be unusual. We as humans are very poor at predicting the future. I remember, as a boy and young man reading articles written by futurists about the great inventions that would change our lives.

Ironically, I don’t recall reading in those articles anything about one of the greatest technological leaps that occurred in the late 20th century; A technological leap that has changed the way that business is conducted, how we communicate and entertain ourselves, and more. A technology that has had or will have as much impact on human kind as the printing press had.

Of course I am referring to the Internet. As much as I check the recesses of my mind I cannot recall an article written in the 50’s, 60’s 70’s or even 80’s by an expert about the future that mentioned anything like the Internet.

Personally I am glad Mr. Pickens is building a bridge to the future. Some may think they know what is on the other side of that bridge, but I think we will be mildly or greatly surprised by what we experience once we arrive.

Mr. Pickens is creating an army to help him build the bridge. In helping him we will be working with some or many who will create the answers to our energy future.

I guess you would call that a bridge to somewhere.
