CNG - The Other Kind of Gas
Rate: 0
With gas prices nearing $5.00/gallon all summer I've been studying natural gas, CNG for months and considering getting the Honda GX Natural Gas car . It's been looking better and better. CNG is only about a $1.75 a gallon and even cheaper if you have a home filling station. In my state of California there are many natural gas filling stations, actually a ton and more and opening up all the time.

According to NGV America there are already:

There are over 120,000 NGVs on U.S. roads today and over 8.7 million worldwide.
There are over 1,100 NGV fueling stations in the U.S. - over half are available for public use.
Natural gas costs, on average, one-third less than conventional gasoline at the pump.
Over 50 different manufacturers produce 150 models of light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles and engines.
Roughly 22 percent of all new transit bus orders are for natural gas.
Natural gas is sold in GGEs or gasoline gallon equivalents. A GGE has the same energy content (124,800 BTUs) as a gallon of gasoline.
I like that CNG is good for the environment with practically zero emissions . Plus, there are tremendous tax rebates by going with the Honda Civic GX.

The down side is that with this kind of car you have to plan your trips and know where all the natural gas filling stations are ahead of time, that or fill up at home. It's a matter of changing the way I live and drive and is something I'm seriously considering.
