To quote a response I made to a comment on hydrogen fuel-cell cars: I disagree with the contention that hydrogen production is dirty. It can be done in a cup of water with a 9V battery. Little tiny hydrogen and oxygen bubble come out of the water. hmmmm dirty? NOT. Also, in the UK, they have built a prototype solar powered station that separates hydrogen and oxygen for free. HMMMM clean and cheap? YEP! Also, GM, Honda and others are starting to produce the vehicles. Yeah, Honda is charging waaaaaay too much for the status symbols right now, but they did the same thing for a Prius about 5 years ago too. If local stations adopted the UK prototype, the hydrogen production could be done on-site around the country for free without any transportation costs. CAN YOU SAY CHEAP FUEL? HMMMMM, Maybe even have one on the side of the house with a panel on the garage roof? HMMMMM -- CAN YOU SAY FREE!!!! The possibilities are endless.

Chris, read the whole post before commenting. UK is using solar to do the job. The 9V battery just shows how simple the process is. A solar panel can do the job. And by the way, they do recycle batteries these days. So please, don't throw away, take to an authorized recycling center to save the planet.

But was the production of that 9V battery clean? That is the problem with hydrogen. It has to be created with some other energy/fuel source. Can you find another energy/fuel source that is clean that can be used for the production of the hydrogen?

I have an elder friend who is converting his pickup. He is very optimistic about it.
We are located on the coast in Oregon - 12 miles from Newport.
Thanks for sharing about this technology.
