This week's business news: There has been an ever increasing oil glut for 8 months now; yet gasoline prices kept creeping up. Oil glut could push gasoline prices below $ 2 again!
Philip K. Verleger, expert in energy markets at the University of Calgary: "It's a huge surplus. There has never been anything like it."
To keep prices up, oil companies and banks (some we just bailed out with our - - excuse me YOUR - - tax dollars) have bought and stored surplus oil everywhere. As many as 67 supertankers, each carrying about 3 million barrels of oil, are being used as floating storage.
This will - hopefully - collapse soon! But in the meantime lots of money was made via manipulating oil prices, resulting in YOU paying in excess of $ 3 at the pump. And when this collapses, these banks are going to lose more money, AND THEN THEY'LL COME RUNNING TO WASHINGTON AGAIN, BEGGING FOR MORE STIMULUS $$$! Will they get it? Those poor bank executives who probably received millions in bonuses for 'doing such a great job.' Do you really think they care if a bank loses money, as long they made their bonuses (possibly also paid off by big oil behind the scenes?).

We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, 'Stay the course. Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned, 'Titanic. I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the bums out!'

I ask again: Why isn't Washington initiating a strong conservation program, as practiced very successfully in Germany and other European countries? As demonstrated by one of our best research institutes, RMI (Rocky Mountain Institute), conservation would lower our energy needs by 30%. This would certainly help us in WINNING THE OIL ENDGAME.
