It's been a jam packed few weeks and we wanted to let you know how successful the Pickens Plan Anniversary roll out was and thank you again for your help.
Beginning last Tuesday morning at 8AM, Boone participated in media interviews, Capitol Hill events and Army meetings for 48 hours straight, including the introduction of the Senate version of the NAT GAS Act (S. 1408). In a joint press conference with Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senators Orrin Hatch and Robert Menendez, the companion bill to H.R. 1835 was introduced in the Senate. The result was widespread coverage of the Pickens Plan and the impact we’re having on the nation’s energy policy.
Without your hard work keeping your folks involved and enthused, the Pickens Plan would have run out of … gas (pun intended). Because of your dedication, when we pitch Boone for a TV news show, or a wire service interview, or a newspaper op-ed they almost always eagerly agree -- because you have continued the momentum.
You should note that the Senate version of the NAT GAS Act is numbered S. 1408. Having the bill active in both the House and the Senate was crucial. We’ll be calling on you to keep your troops actively involved in encouraging Members of Congress to co-sponsor and ultimately vote for the bill. We set up an online letter for folks to use which you can access by clicking here.
Boone also participated in a media call with Majority Leader Reid and Center for American Progress Action Fund president John Podesta this week to preview the August 10 event in Las Vegas -- National Clean Energy Summit 2.0: Jobs and the New Economy. You can learn more about that event at http://nationalcleanenergyproject.org/.
Lastly, we can never forget that we're all in this to get us off foreign oil and protect our national and economic security. Boone announced this week that based on the latest figures from the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration (EIA), the U.S. imported 64 percent of its oil, or 354 million barrels in June 2009, sending approximately $24.7 billion overseas to foreign governments, a 13 percent increase from the $21.6 billion spent in May.
Keep on encouraging your District Group members to contact their Members of Congress to support H.R. 1835 and S. 1408 -- it's the way that we can reverse this trend of relying on foreign oil!
PS If you haven’t already I encourage you to watch the Anniversary video wrap up -- it’s the best one yet. Click here: http://www.pickensplan.com/boonecam/2009/07/11/thank-you-for-the-energy-independence-day-victory/
