Yet, we don't do the most common-sense thing!
Why don't we do the most logical thing - - as already practiced effectively by European countries - - NAMELY INITIATE A STRONG CONSERVATION PLAN?
As demonstrated by our finest energy research center - - the Rocky Mountain Institute - - US energy needs could be reduced by 30% by practicing conservation! The importance of doing so was - again - emphasized by National Science Board co-chairman Dan Arvizu in an interview is SCIENCE NEWS, June 6, 2009, page 32.
Conservation - - educating people about all the benefits, from 30% less oil usage, greatly reduced CO2 production, 30% less oil imports, 30% reduction in US trade deficit - - would be a Win-WIN Plan with no negative side effects.
Let's make a concerted effort to ask Washington to initiate a strong conservation plan!

As a start, check out a basic approach that involves plug-ins, solar electric (PV) systems, and US auto makers that could produce a VW-type, inexpensive plug-in hybrid (- - by salvaging the "originally designed for failure" GM Volt).
