The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a Clean Water Act permit last month for Consol Energy’s Peg Fork mountaintop removal coal mine in Mingo County, West Virginia. For more details see the
post by Robert Schultz at "Organizers and Leaders."
Environmentally, the worst an administration can do to our country is to support
COAL STRIP MINING.
When even the EPA objects (to strip mining), the administration just passes an order along to another branch of willing followers. The sorry Corps of Engineers officer - - - "I was only following orders" - - who wants to be promoted to the next rank is the sucker whose signature under on the paper makes such an atrocity legal.
Two months ago the Obama administration informed a W-VA congressman (also coal lobbyist) that this administration would not stand in the way of 24 (twenty four * * * * TWENTY FOUR * * * *
TWENTY FOUR)
COAL STRIP MINING PROJECTS!
Why?
The simplest answer, which also indicates at what price level "what is right for our country" becomes a # 2 priority, is that coal unions and the coal industry put $ 38 million into the Obama campaign.
How disgusting!
