"Pickens Plan vs Gore Challenge"
March 9, 2009–Zale Auditorium/Jewish Community Center
For us to get out from the present economic and environmental pickle, the initiative should start from us and not from Washington. The time is now for the ideological re-wiring of America.

Uly, God bless you for your confidence. That gives your generation a special kind of couage to strike out in new directions and still believe that the future will be at least as bright as the past ever was. As you age it becomes harder to maintain that comfidence and yet people plod on under their burdens. That takes a special kind of couage too. It is easy for me to look back and see how this country has already been idealogically changed. In some ways I rejoice at the change. Thank God the Jim Crow laws of the deep south are gone. In other instances I mourn over what has been lost. Sometimes the changes are rapid and sometimes they creap into our lives very quietly. Changing a whole culture is like turning a great ship. Titanic was a tragic case of not being able to turn fast enough. If she only had a larger rudder... Well that is an important point. What will use for a rudder that is big enough to change our course and once we find it who do we trust to tell us which direction to take? ...This could be a very long discussion. ... Maybe the safest course is for each of us to be the kind of person (with the kind of values) that others will want to emulate and we can be the rudder that changes the course. That is a big responsibility. Choose your couse wisely.

Michael,
What I mean about re-wiring America is that the time is now for us to forget the past, drop our political ideology, the time is now to have a unified comprehensive vision for the future of America. ”The real impetus of change is our openness to accept the evolution of our common conviction that it is not about what a party could do for our country, but what we could do together as a nation.” Every dream comes from a speck of hope. It is through hope where we gain our strength to make a change. Then it is through change where we can make this country great again.

Ideological re-wiring how? Usually that takes a big conflict like war. Even then, basic values don't change much outside a few issues. How do we address ideological issues that are culturally and religiously entrenched, in an ethical fashion while maintaining our national identity and our individual and sub-national ones (even if not ethnic, religious, for example)?
