I know how important it is to make this change to get off the oil train and I feel that even though people don't want to support the oil companies, I don't think some know how important it is to act on it now. I would like to see the private sector and all these investors who are investing in oil get perks to invest in new sources of energy to break this cycle we have been stuck on for so long. Major changes need to come soon. I don't think it's too late. I will do everything in my power to make something positive happen. I will continue to find the resources I need to start a green business and I feel the Pickens Plan may be one of them.

Way to go JAck!

OK... go to the TAKE ACTION page. On the left side under tools there are three blue bars. The on e in the middle says upload. This is where you want to be. It does take a bit of time. But I like knowing it is done!

You can fax it. But the ones I faxed do not seem to be attached to our district yet. Many were over 2-3 weeks ago! I know they all go into the pot. But our district is working hard, and they deserve to see the results!

LEt me know if you have more problems.

40 is fantastic. How many do you have total. You must be closing in on 100!

I live in a small town of 10,000 with 15% unemployment . I am working on Petition #9 enlisting 72 people into Boone's Energy Army. I have jumped through hoops, rolled on the floor, and did sing 3 songs that gave me a standing ovation......While they were applauding I signed up some more.......Let's keep the army in GROWTH MODE! However, I am running out of people to talk to who are positive about anything.

Hey JAck

Are you at 100 yet? Can't wait to hear. When you ask foks to use the letter, they can manually input the names on TAKE ACTION page, if they do not have or want to fax.

It is actually quicker to get the names into the system this way!

Jack,
We see things the same way and we are at a crossroads where we need to do everything we can to catch up with what we should have done in the 70s. Greed is a hard battle to win and our country has been turned up side down over oil and greed. They are one in the same and we need to work together to get away from it now. We still have time to get it done and the time is now. This is our last chance to get it right. Lets work together to rebuild the American dream.

What I have learned in having conversations with people about over seas oil is we are on the same page but for different reasons. Some don't believe in global warming, but they don't like the control the oil companies have on our economy. The rest don't like the fact that we are destroying the earth while supporting terrorism with American money. I will do the petition and get as many people involved as possible. I feel it is important to get green businesses started as soon as possible and rebuild the American dream with jobs and freedom.
Sincerely,
Greg

Hi Jack!

Thank you kindly for the upadate! Would you please post you success and the letter on the district leader board? I think they are tired of hearing me beat the drum and need the music from another band! They need direction to get to 500 by the 20th! And.... as you have seen, it really works.

They will be inspired by your success.

Check out the PIC of the 1941 version of a wind turbine erected in 1941 near Rutland Vermont. While reaching out for Pledge signatures, my friend Paul Cooper sent this along with the attached article. It's fascinating that almost 70 years later we're at war to re-invent what we already had.

Here's Pauls letter:

Yes, Jack! Please add my vote to the petition.

I went on line and read the Pickens Daily News and the Pickens plan. I was surprised to see that the wind blows up to 9 m/s (20 mph) in that Great Plains corridor from the Texas panhandle to North Dakota. Thank you for putting me onto this.

My interest in wind power goes back to the oil crisis of 1973, when I learned about the first modern wind turbine, which was built just before WWII and placed on a 107-ft tower (see attached picture) on top of a 2000-ft mountain called “Grandpa’s Knob”, just west of Rutland Vermont. It produced 1.25MW in winds over 17 mph (5.2 m/s) on top of that mountain. The power was added to the electric generating system of the Central Vermont Public Service Corp. It had two modern airfoil-type blades that swept out a 175-ft-diamater circle and were designed by the world-famous aerodynamicist Theodore von Kármán of California Institute of Technology for the S. Morgan Smith Company in York, PA, (the forerunner of Allis Chalmers – and now Voith – and whose main product at the time was hydropower turbines for dams – and still is.) A team of professors in Aeronautical Engineering and Meteorology from MIT worked on the program, and were assisted by Dr. C. F. Brooks, Director of Harvard’s Blue Hill Observatory and another Harvard professor in figuring out the wind speeds at potential sites for this wind turbine. Several other professors from other academic institutions contributed to the effort, including Dr. Th. Troller of the Guggenheim Aeronautical Institute in Akron, Ohio, who carried out wind tunnel tests of models of mountains under von Kármán’s direction. Von Kármán also directed the wind-tunnel model-testing of the turbine blades at Stanford. That is only the tip of the iceberg of the team that S. Morgan Smith Co. assembled for this project under the direction of Project Manager Palmer Putnam, who was the originator and first promoter of the idea.

This wind turbine produced power for a few years until an errant defect in one of the two 8-ton blades caused it to break off and fall down the mountain in March 1945. The unbalance of the single remaining blade wrecked the installation. The engineers knew that in future designs this defect could be avoided; however, S. Morgan Smith had spent a lot of money on the project and at the time could not find enough interest for Putnam’s dream of a huge quantity of such wind turbines to become a reality. So they did have Putnam report on the whole program in detail in his book, Power from the Wind, published by D. Van Nostrand in 1948, of which I have a copy. This fascinating book is the definitive early reference on the subject of wind turbines, and is most likely in the library of T. Boone Pickens, too.

Isn’t it sad that the world had to wait for at least half a century for Mr. Putnam’s dream to come true?!!

Paul Cooper

P.S.: Here is a quote from Chapter 1 of Putnam’s book: “In the fall of 1941 something new had been added to the generating system of the Central Vermont Public Service Corporation. Motorists in central Vermont saw, from 25 miles away, a giant windmill, its polished sunlit blades flashing on top of the 2000-foot Grandpa’s Knob, 12 miles west of Rutland and overlooking the Champlain Valley. This was the experimental Smith-Putnam Wind-Turbine, undergoing its first tests. The unit was rated at 1250 kilowatts, enough to light a town, and was feeding power into the utility company’s system, permitting water to be stored behind dams when the wind blew more than 17 miles an hour.”

Hi Jack!

Thank you for the nice note. Happy to work with anyone on this historical effort. I still think everyday, that if we build this to more than an annoyance to our legislators, there will be no place to hide, and we will succeed.

I have been successful with getting folks to join our efforts in the following ways:
1. I carry the petition with me everywhere I go. I talk to people I know and some I do not if the circumstances are right. I have yet to find one person that does not want to get off foreign oil. I simply say " I am gathering support for T Boone Pickens plan to get us off foreign oil and onto American solutions" I got 30 at the gym, 5 from the hair salon, 6 from the dress shop, 2 from the fish store, etc, etc, etc. They add up quickly. You can gather 10 per day pretty easily. In ten days that is 100 new supporters. 5 people doing that and you are done! Wel, hopefully not, because if you are that good at it, you should train others and keep it going.

2. I sent a letter to my friends associates, etc. when I first started this in July. Very few took the time to sign up. Then, recently I sent this letter, and have had a fantastic response - 38 in the last 24 hours!

"HI!

Can I please submit your name as a supporter of the Pickens Plan? We are trying to gather over 1,000 new supporters from RI before Inauguration Day. I am available to answer any questions you may have. If other friends or family members support it, will you please include their info as well.

I only need name, address and email. (Boone does not share info, he will send a periodic update)

Here is the plan if you would like to see a short video www.pickensplan.com Please stop by my page and say "hi"
http://push.pickensplan.com/profile/kimanderson

The Pickens plan is simple and doable. At current gas prices we spend over 400 billion a year (that we borrow from China) on foreign oil. (when it was higher, the number was 700 billion, it will be there again soon enough)

Picken's plan is to:

1. Use American technology and renewable solutions for electricity. Wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, etc.

2. Use CNG (natural gas) for transportation fuel, especially trucks, buses and municipal vehicles- 40% of our needs as a country. Batteries will never be able to move 18 wheelers. CNG is cleaner and less expensive than foreign oil, and it is ours!

3. Boone is an "all of the above" guy, as long as it is an American solution, and the money stays in this country.

I am participatin in a national effort to gather millions of supporters to insure that Congress supports our efforts to finally get this countyr to be energy independant. Brazil has done it....why can't we? Cheap oil has gotten us here, but we must finally end it. Our economy and national security depend upon it. Some say our very future could be affected.

We could become net exporters of renewable energies and ride this horse out of the economic trough we are in. We have a very limited time to make this work. Call it a perfect storm, led by a titan of commerce who is leading this historical effort to make sure we get this right.

Look forward to hearing from you.
Best
Kim"

When they email me their info, I ask them of the will forward it to friends and family. If we can forward jokes and recipes, why not something this important. It should be flying around the country to everyone who has email! GO VIRAL.

3. I go to coffee at Dunkin Donuts and sit with the petition while I read the paper. Everyone that I know is invited to offer support. Often, folks that they know, and I do not, walk by and see what is going on and offer support. Once in a while it is like a feeding frenzy. If I have time and stay for an hour, I can get 20-40 signatires on average. I used to own a business in town for 20 years and grew up here - this works very well in a community setting (pop. 26,000) People see the petition and are surious, so it is still possible with strangers.

Please go to the 100CLUB group page (linked though my page) there are some great folks there that have also accomplished the 100 challenge. Great ideas. Some used signs, some used hats. Anything to say what you are supporting, and people will approach you.

I have just passed the 500 mark. I am so thrilled to be personally growing,
through grass roots in my community, something that I think can save our country. We have been going down a dark road for a long time, with Boone's help we can change that. WHEN will we ever have a man who puts this much effort and time and money into fixing this mess? We need to hitch our horses to his wagon and plow hard, JACK!

Please let me know how it goes. I am anxious to hear.

Dear Mr. Costantino
As a new comer to this overall plan, I must say you are well informed, and make a whole lot of sense. I am a Journeyman Electrician in Orlando, Florida with personal endeavors involving upgrading to Electrical & General Contractor status. What advice would you give me? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.
