Hi Rick, Here is a way to help and give tools to all of us for getting more RE projects started. I have been pushing for the sell of US Treasury "Energy Independence Savings Bonds". Savings bonds are normally purchased in $25 increments. This gives a way for just about any American to tighten their belts just a bit by skipping a meal at McDonalds or Pizza Hut and buying a RE savings bond to support a project. I am an Electronic Technician Chief in the US Navy with 27 years service stationed overseas. I’m outlying an idea to assist and work with current plans for achieving energy independence. I urge you, as speaker of the house and the driving force to form the select committee on energy independence and global warming, consider for discussion and introduction into the house US Treasury Savings Bonds for Energy Independance.
In WWII America sold war bonds supporting the war effort. When young, my mother told me her primary school raised enough money through bonds to build a tank to support troops. I am impressed with the patriotism and purpose of our greatest generation that accomplished so much.

Selling energy bonds for RE (Renewable Energy) development would lower foreign oil imports and assist with the complex problem of funding. Bonds sold as “Energy S” could support new solar trough plants, “Energy W” to support wind farms, Energy “H” to support hydroelectric plants, Energy “T” to support RE transportation such as electric bullet train routes powered by RE, Energy "C" COOPS for small communities only needing a small quantity of turbines, and Energy “I” for needed infrastructure high voltage power lines to the RE site. Bonds will have the project name and include an artist’s perspective of the project and an American flag. President Obama had great success with the internet during his campaign. In a similar manner, using the internet, energy bonds could have a website listing current projects and an “electronic checkout” could purchase a bond $25 or higher. Simpler methods of payment such as “PAYPAL” and credit cards would be available and after an electronic purchase is complete a color print out of the bond is available with a follow up of the bond in the mail. The website would limit quantity of projects for each category until funding is complete. After a project becomes funded, a new project will be available. A tab on the site will show history and status of previous projects. Purchasers may take great pride in “collecting” and displaying bonds of various RE projects and participating at different levels of financial support. Solar trough plants in the multi-hundred MW size capacity with molten salt energy storage in California, Arizona, and West Texas can provide a major portion of electric needs. North Dakota has potential to support 1/3 of our nations electric needs in it’s class 4 wind zone areas. There are plenty of suitable proposed wind turbine farms now around the nation to significantly increase our RE if funded. Mid sized hydro-electric has not been used in America to it’s full potential. Following the example of our neighbor, Canada, it would provide a significant increase in percentage of electric production. Developing all three we could provide the majority of our electric and heating needs through renewable energy in a "New New Deal" fashion allowing natural gas for transportation as T. Boone Pickens is working for. Bullet train routes have proven a viable alternative to commercial domestic air service and when powered by electricity provided by RE suppliers America would be in the forefront of world technology. Example, I heard of discussion for a commuter train from Denver to Colorado Springs. Such a route built as a renewable energy project with charter requirement legally requiring to only purchase electricity from available renewable energy sources would be a model example. There are many train routes, city bus systems, and government vehicles that can be converted to run from alternative energy sources and fuels. Jobs created would bolster the economy, lower trade deficit, and strengthen national security. I would take great pride in print outs of bonds with graphics of each project I supported and many other Americans would also. The energy bonds could have tax breaks. BLM lands may be a viable place to start for some projects.

I contacted the US treasury department and was told that the marketing department for savings bonds closed several years ago. I was told there would be problems because savings bonds are at the federal level while the projects will be at the state and local level. I disagree and believe that these can easily be figured out in the way of grants to the state and local level using money from the bonds for those specific projects. I was told to check out auctions on the www.treasurydirect.gov website and found them to not apply to citizens wanting to buy savings bonds to support a cause such as energy independance. I was told by the treasury department to look into CREB (Clean Renewable Energy Bonds). I found CREB to be large scale funding that a citizen would not be able to participate in as a US Treasury Energy Independance Bond would provide. If given the tools to participate directly, the power of the citizens of the United States to help achieve energy independance could not be denied. Americans mean well and the Energy Independance Savings bond program will give citizens the power at their level to make it happen. If marketed through a web page, commercials, and to federal employees the word would get out and participation would spread like wildfire.

Mr. Paul Gipe, a resident of Bakersfield CA, an author of several books about wind energy, and recipient of multiple awards as a pioneer in the industry since the 1970's has put a letter I wrote to Senator Dorgan on this subject as well as an older letter I wrote on wind COOP in JAN07. Hello Rick, thanks for the reply. One of the most difficult things I have learned is that you are going to invent something, you have to play a thousand different roles which you have no experience. So I have stumbled & learned on the fly. Getting attention to this project has become my focal point. I had achieved a financial backer but the economy has caused him to default. Now I face the very real real possibility of losing what I have invested my sanity in... possibly similar to a farmer losing because of a bad year of crops.

There is little I will not pursue to get it it's due attention. Through the course of development I have also created what I believe will be a patentable lightweight structural member (imagine a house I-beam used to support the joists that 1 worker can lift into place) in my pursuit of reducing costs.

Getting this project attention has been nearly impossible for me as it is 70 hour a week job all within itself. Within the last 60 days I have lost my financial backing and so I have scrambled to try to learn a way to do this. Relatively minor debts are now filing suit and I am simply not capable of picking up where my financial backer defaulted...

What is involved with your idea and how do I begin? Adam

Hello. My name is Adam. I have been developing an incredible new design of windmill. This project is in jeopardy as my financial backer has defaulted and now relatively minor debts are becoming legal issues. This project holds the promise of reducing wind power costs by 1/2 and also providing large amounts for lower investments. Also these machines can be installed on existing wind farms to increase output on the same real estate as these machines utilize wind 100 ft & below. I need help so I am reaching out. Adam

My Jatropha video will go on YouTube in a couple of weeks, don't expect a "professional video." I am having good luck so far with the seedlings I planted, but the seeds I started in peat-pots myself are not doing to well. I think the skills of a nurseryman are needed to get the seeds to growing. Once they start, looks easy. I just hope my current-crop will handle the winter in the next few months and continue to grow next Spring.

Former NYC Mayor Koch made a most eloquent case for placing a tax on imported oil. Instead of sending the money overseas we keep it here and it becomes an incentive for alternative domestic sources of energy. I think it remains an excellent idea. It was broadcast on Bloomberg Radio about a year ago. He's only on on Friday's (if he's still doing the show). Maybe I'll call in and see what he thinks of NKYCarbon's graduated tax based on a rolling average of oil costs. I'll also suggest that any taxes raised be put towards distribution lines on the EasternGrid and WesternGrid leading away from the wind belt.

In any event, I'll see if I can find a podcast or link of Mayor Koch's argument to post here and on LibertyIsGreen.com.

Let's try this you could fill up your car at your own house from the natural gas line you normally use for home NG gas consumption, with a simple device that pressures the gas for your cars NG tank. This device is already in production and available from three companies that I know of, here is just one of them http://www.myphill.com/. They cost about $2500.00 and used ones are about $1800.00. They work on propane just as well as NG.

So the electric grid needs to be rebuilt. How about a small volunteer electric tax of say $10.00 per month per every electric bill in the U.S. from both residential and commercial electric bills. That should just about pay for that in about 46 months, as 360 million electric bills go out every mouth. And if you have an electric plug-in hybrid already then you can place an electric meter on an out let on every gas station and convenience store gas station in America for under $200.00 per outlet and add an extra $1.00 at every recharge of say 10 minutes, to be give to the tax fund to rebuild the grid. If the Gas stations has access to NG then the Device I just mentioned in the paragraph above can be install and metered and paid for just like buying gasoline in the store or gas station for $3500.00 per pump island and paid for at point of sale. you could add an extra $1.00 to your purchase to be paid into the tax fund to rebuild the grid. And the government and the Electric companies could make up the difference and the project could start tomorrow. As the revenue would be there as the volunteer tax monies start showing up on the electric bills. These two proposals are a no brainer.

There are those who claim advantages of maglev berings for WTs, IMO this is hype -- steel-on-steel rolling element berrings are so low drag (ounces of drag per tone of load) that the bearing losses are less than 1%, so gains of maglev even if 1000 times more efficient, would at best result in a 1% gain.

Most of the losses in a WT are aerodynamic, while it is true that aerodynamic drag force would be eliminated in a vacuum, it is also true that aerodynamic forces that cause the WT to generate electricity would also be eliminated.

I see no favorable benefits of ETT for WTs, but that is not to say that one could not exist!

All I meant to suggest was that a massive object circling at a high rate of speed in a circular vacuum track might have advantages for use as a turbine and would not require the kind of radical infrastructure overhaul that a transportation system might necessitate. The reference to a particle accelerator was only there for the shape of the track.

Good luck with your transportation build-out. We definitely could use some rapid transit alternatives. I understand your system is not pneumatic but I still couldn't help but think of the Secret Subway. Hope to get the chance to ride the ETT soon. I'd like to see one in New York Harbor between Liberty State Park and the Trade Center site. See this Tribute in Light flash animation and remember that Liberty Is Green.

While ETT uses many of the principals of a particle accelerator used in physics projects, but ETT is a lot less complex, and MUCH less costly, so i do not believe a particle accelerator is a likely "stepping stone" to ETT. Instead of accelerating atoms and subatomic particles up to relativistic speeds, ETT is optimized for accelerating vehicles up to 350mph for initial systems, and eventually developed up to 4,000 mph (less than 1000th the speed of "atom smashers").

You do bring up a good point that particle accelerators have GREATLY exceeded (by more than a million times) the simple requirements of ETT. This fact, combined with the fact that human spaceflight requirements also exceed ETT requirements by the same margins, help prove the viability of ETT.

BTW, I am not sure i fully understand your question/comment, if not please please break it down into more steps can understand.

TRANSPORTATION is the master key to basic survival, and the cornerstone of the economy. We all know that transportation presently depends on oil production, and oil production is peaking. We must focus first on transportation – it is the highest priority.

The PickensPlan to transition vehicles to natural gas is a great start toward 100% energy independence, but is a stop-gap measure till we can transition to all electric transportation. Electric energy is strained without adding transportation demands; so we must drastically improve efficiency .

Evacuated Tube Transport (ETT) is a patented technology where travel occurs without air friction or rolling resistance (like “Space Travel on Earth”); ETT can accomplish 50 times more transportation per kWh (or carbon credit) than electric cars or trains. ETT is silent, low cost, safe, faster than jets, and is electric so it can make maximum use of wind or PV power. I invite you to visit my page to learn more about ETT

I like the way you think, sounds all good to me, I'm not sure if the sleeping giant will awaken unless we the people prod it a wee bit.( corprate lobbyist holding a neanderthal status quo) We are so very far behind on where we should be with a solid energy policy, networking can help speed up the healing of that discrepancy. Based on posts I've seen here like yours I set up a website at WLAB.com which I call the Wind Lab for people who are serious about using their real and intellectual property for Wind Power. It's beta, in an experimental stage, but the idea is to allow people to explore opportunities in a community setting.

You are welcome to register there and post your ideas or other relevant information about your land's qualities.

The present organization of the site consists of a Community Forum with discussion boards for the Eastern Grid, the Western Grid and for the special concerns of Farmers. The domain names EasternGrid.com, WesternGrid.com and FarmerGrid.com all point to the Wind Lab site, WLAB.com. The idea here is that the PickensPlan, as I understand it, calls for harvesting the wind of the Wind Belt, roughly corresponding with the Central Plains states, and distributing it to the East and West Coasts. So, as they say in Real Estate, location is everything. In this case, I suppose the locations that will matter the most will be those with the most consistent wind (there are maps that display this) with access to the trunk lines or whatever technology may be available for distributing power. Maybe it will ultimately be lasers and parabolic reflectors in geo-synchronous orbit!!!

In any event, you are welcome to use the Wind Lab to explore available opportunities.

I like your SpiralAirFoil design because it looks great and runs quiet. (It does Archimedes proud.) This makes it ideally suited to residential use. You could market it at a weather vane with benefits!!! I'd buy one! When you are ready to put it in the stream of commerce let me know to promote it. You are welcome to display your wares in the Liberty Is Green Community Forum and in the new Wind Lab Community I'm setting up at WLAB.com.

I'm pretty excited about the WLAB.com Wind Lab concept because the idea is to advance the interests of inventors, designers, landowners, videographers and patriotic, action-oriented environmentalists. Call me a wide-eyed optimist but I believe in the power of Social Network Informatics, Wind, Solar, Biofuels and good, old-fashioned Yankee Ingenuity to get the job done once the Sleeping Giant is awakened.

I have an idea for a pilot project at the Wind Lab. I'd like to try to produce a simple video to advance Wind Energy. The audio would consist of a Shakespearean actor's reading of King Lear's Blow Ye' Winds soliloquy and the video would consist of displays of inventions, such as your Spirofoil Wind Turbine, with your preferred attribution in subtitle. Ya gotta love the Maglev Wind Turbine too.

Maybe I should start a discussion ...

Hi Rick, Thankyou for the kind words about the Spiralairfoil Wind Turbine, She's a real beauty and powerful too, but alas I think she's so different from what people consider a wind turbine that no one is taking her seriously, your compliment came through just at the right time to keep me going, I thank you for that.
